baffled shallow sump zetec

Looking for a baffled sump for my silvertop. Im desperate to get back on track with the car but I'm too afraid to try again after loosing my first engine on castle Combe due to oil surge.

A raceline one would be ideal but I really can't afford a new one just now.

I'd also like to know has anyone made their own baffle plate that has any info they'd like to share? ?

IMO the best one on the market without going dry sump is the raceline one... if you've already lost one engine with oil surge or starvation. I would be looking no further than the raceline one. You'll always be worrying that something might go wrong. esp at Combe.

Up until recently I had the raceline wet sump... as the alternative were less than satisfactory for the money, I know it's more money but there is a reason for that.

If you have a developed engine.. it's just not worth the risk IMO

How about starting your own wanted ad T30MF instead of hijacking mine?

busted. sorry went complete with the other engine.

Playo: that a standard home made modified one. I have seen people baffle them DIY style on other forums... How successful they are was never reported.

Thanks Rob. Im tempted to have a go of making one but I'm unsure if I can be bothered with the hassle if it goes wrong (already spent enough time fixing the car this year)

I wonder what my sump is worth to someone? Maybe I can flog it to one of the ford boys and use that money to go towards buying a raceline one

   ???  Must be the heat  :d

I have you seen the Dunnell one, it come baffled and everything plus its a bit cheaper than the race line one, Paul is great to deal with and very helpful

In fairness your first post reads like your trying to get in on my ad for yourself, I think that's a little disrespectful if you were.

I have looked at the dunnell sump but it's only about 100 less than raceline and it's a std sump modified with a baffle added, considering I already have a modified sump I find it a bit pricey.

That was the conclusion I came to too Playo. Which I why I bought the raceline one. Fit for purpose, never had any issue with it. Ever.

Went dry sump on my latest engine but would have gone raceline again, had I not.

IMO raceline everytime. Might be worth either selling yours on or having a go at baffling yours first. But I know what I would be doing. :)

When you all say 'standard' do you mean the OE Ford item for a fwd car or the Westfield sump? I assume the latter isn't baffled regardless. I had no idea the Dunnell was a chopped up standard Ford item too!

Me neither, for the money, while there is some basic design and development in it, there printing £200 for everyone they sell!

How much is the Westfield welded one, I cant see it on their store. Presumably given all the negative press it gets they have not got the baffles as good as Dunnell.

My thoughts exactly on the Dunnell, it may well work good but I'd rather try making my own baffle for the money.

Raceline is what I'm after but still can't justify the near £500 cost for a new one (I missed out on a used one a few days back on ebay) as I have so much else I want done on the car I'm really struggling to prioritise my hard earned :(

I'm amazed there isn't someone producing a baffled sump for a more reasonable price, but then again, unless you have stable and reasonable volumes you on near enough individual fabrication at which point the price isn't miles off. You cant batch-make 10 to last you there because you dont have the stock of sumps to modify, and buying new sumps to cut up would eat into the profit or put the price up all over again.

The raceline sump is clearly bl**dy expensive, if very nice and apparently of a design that works well. But again on the volumes its fairly brave to tool up for it at all and the price reflects the need to pay that outlay back. Given whats in it £500 for that kit with the pickup, baffle plate,  windage tray etc is fair game. The first £250-300 of that must be the machined casting alone.

Rock and a hard place. At the end of the day bespoke or specialist parts/equipment/engineering is never cheap and that's what they are even if to look at its just a cut and shut sump.

The only way the an amateur can justify making one is if they enjoy it enough to not factor in there own hourly rate and put the overheads on the garage/welder/etc as existing ones.
