After doing very little last season due to the new overalls regulations, this year I have decided that I will get out in the car more, and a good way was through the speed series.

The year before, I was lucky enough to do Prescott hillclimb, which was great, but the really difficult part for me was trailer parking. (Trailers go in a field round the back, and as my tow car is just the normal family renault scenic I really struggled to get the trailer in/out. If it had been muddy we'd have been properly stuck!)

I know ideally I need a better tow car, but given that this isn't an option right now, are there any venues that I should avoid for trailer access, or is this just an issue at hillclimbs and not really a problem at circuits?

Sorry, random question I know, hopefully it makes sense.

Circuits are never usually a problem but hillclimbs by their somewhat temporary use nature do tend to be more awkward...

You could of course fetch the empty trailer back to the paddock at the end of the meeting then load the car onto it and leave as the paddock entry exits tend to be better than the muddy fields used for trailer storage - lots of people have got stuck when the weather has been really wet, the trailer/camping field at Shelsley Walsh has seen lots of cars and motorhomes in difficulty but there's usually a few guys about who will help with a push or even with a 4x4 to tow you to the road.

Many years ago I found I could not get my trailer and Westfield out of the field at Gurston Down with my Passat estate as I was on the downslope of a hill, luckily a fellow racer with a Ranage Rover hitched up my trailer and towed it out to the tarmac paddock where I could take over.

I echo what Pete says and lots of competitors tow with normal cars ranging from VW Golfs, Passats and Astras; so no real problem generally.  Circuits will rarely be a problem and only hills (as you tend to be parked in a field) when it is wet and then there is always loads of help on hand to either tow or push.

It varies enormously. At major circuits like Aintree, Silverstone, Brands, Goodwood, Lydden, Hethel, Snetterton, Cadwell, Three Sisters, you won't basically get off the hardstanding. At MIRA, Curborough and Blyton you'll have to park on the grass, but, unless there's a deluge, you're unlikely to have a problem. Muddy fields are essentially part of the hill-climb experience. However, as Peter says, there will normally be a gang of willing helpers if you're in any trouble. HTH

Llandow, Pembrey and Ty Croes in Anglesey are all tarmac paddocks to park on which is just as well as Wales is often WET!!!!!!!!

Wiscombe Park can be a problem in wet weather.........ask anyone who was there last year!! But to be serious it was exceptional.

I tow my trailer/westfield with my Volvo V50, and apart from Wiscombe last year I have never had any problem.

Russ as others have said you will be fine, I was never left stranded and I drive a Vectra that gets stuck on damp tarmac.

Thanks all for the reassurance. The car really doesn't like hills with the trailer on, and damp field + trailer + slight incline was a complete nightmare!

That's another excuse out the way and another reason for me to go for it this year. :)
