Marto303 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Hello from a new Westfield owner Well this is my first post here and probably a very silly question from a newbie but: I have just bought what was advertised as an 1999 SE, however after reading through all the paper work the original reciepts from Westfield say its a SEW and I'm now not sure what I have. So I assume there is a very obvious way to identify them both which is ? Martin Quote
darve Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 This may help http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/93131-how-wide-how-narrow-will-it-fit-whats-the-width-or-length/ Quote
SteveD Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 sounds like you have a 1999 se wide (sew) so live axle wide body Quote
alexander72 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 enjoy your westy ownership and welcome to the madhouse..... Quote
SootySport Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Wide body, measure inside width in the drivers side across the seat between the the gearbox tunnel and the inside of the body, should be 425mm not including the thickness of the carpet. Quote

Not always Bernie there's two different widths of transmission tunnel on the wides. It's safer to measure between the interiror side panels on both sides to be sure. Or althernatively look at the shape of the tub around the rear lights and the shoulder panel. Quote
Norman Verona Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Doesn't the chassis number tell you? Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Doesn't the chassis number tell you? Not on a 1999 it wont but at that age as Steve said i'd expect it to be a wide Quote
Graham0127 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Does it really matter ? If you enjoyed your quarter pounder with cheese ,does it matter if it contained horse? Enjoy your car and membership of the club. Welcome welcome & yes we`re all mad,you have to be to buy a Westie. Quote

Marto303 Posted January 19, 2013 Author Posted January 19, 2013 Thanks guys for all your help and for making feel so welcome, it would appear that I do indeed have a SEW as the drivers side between side pane and tunnel is 425ish mm and not the 395ish mm for a narrow and as SteveD correctly suggested with a live axel. Best get my membership sorted cos I get the feeling I'm going to be relying on the knowledge of you guys quite a lot over the coming months. Here she is Thanks Again Martin Quote

Mark (smokey mow) Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Definately a wide you can tell by the shape of the body tub around the rear lights. On a wide (with fixed rear arches) the inside edge of the rear lamps are set into the curve of the tub into a square cut-out. This isn't present on a narrow or wides with detachable arches as the lamps are further out and don't intrude into the shape of the main body. Quote
