GuitarmanUK Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Does anyone have any experience of these? Looks like nice bit of kit, especially with wi-fi and the phone app, and for £200, a bit of a bargain. Are there any other options I could consider for the same sort of money? Quote
FILFAN Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 i have the 2 ind its a great bit of kit. only downside is battery life but the 3 may be better Quote
S2T Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I have one and am still trialling it. First impression is that it will be sufficient for my immediate needs Quote
S2T Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 PS the WiFi and phone app works well but remember to download latest software update first. Also means you don't have to spend c£80 on the video back Quote
AdamR Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 For the money it's a great little camera, very versatile and the app is extremely useful - mainly for setting the angle of view up, but the way you can control the camera via the app can be very handy (strapped into your car and you can't reach around far enough to press the buttons, for example!). The three cameras in the GoPro range are now effectively a GoPro HD1 (now called the white), HD2 (now called the silver) and the new HD3 (called the black). Going up in the range gets you slightly better video quality, improved low-light performance and a faster processor - for example the Black can do 120fps at low resolutions, and up to 4k ('Full HD' of 1080p = 1080 lines of pixels to make up the video, 4k is nearly 4 times this amount! Although at 12fps it's usefulness is relatively low other than for effectively taking stills). I'm just about to set up an offer in the WSSC members only area in case it's of interest Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I'm in the market for one of these so a group buy sounds great. My only concern is they have no repair facilities in the uk and they have to be sent to the USA for repair Quote

My only concern is they have no repair facilities in the uk and they have to be sent to the USA for repair I didn't realise that - the only warranty claims I've processed, the camera was replaced. How long ago was that Barry? The European distributors have recently upped their involvement somewhat, so maybe they have a 'full' service centre now. Quote

Last month my brother bought one about 4 months ago from jessops now it won't switch one GoPro told him he had to send to the states at his expense, and I expect jessops will be no help now as well. AdamR Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Hmm, no, that's not right. Unless they were selling grey imports. All UK camera warranty is done through Madison, the European distributors: http://www.madison.co.uk/ - he could try contacting them direct? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Not right anyway, if its new and faulty his guarantee is with Jessops, they don't get to pick and choose. whoops, just seen the news about Jessops going under. How sad to see another name go. Had several SLR's from them over the years, numerous lenses and more film, chemicals and printing paper than I care to remember. Quote
