M444TTB Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Argentinian rump steak from the Pistenklause in Nurburg. Wages down with a nice beer. Yum. Quote
Norman Verona Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 I used to have lunch most days in Simpsons in the city off cornhill, very nice steak and bubble for about £12 a head with a sausage on the side. Posher lunches would be at Caravaggio's on Leadenhall St, or Tubby Isaac's on Aldgate High Street. My fav lucnh in the city was the bagel shop on brick lane.... just awesome salt beef. I haven't eaten in the city for a decade - prefer my sarnies in the woods :-) James, been to all of them when we lived in London and worked near Aldgate. Did you ever go to Blooms in Whitechapel Rd? Amazing Jewish food like Gefilte Fish, smoked salmon bagels, cream cheese bagels. But the salt beef was good as well (I'm not a real fan). I left London in 1990 and have only been back once for a meeting. In and out as quickly as possible. Quote
alexander72 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Never been to blooms Norm - My office was in America Sq so i spent many a sunny afternoon in the Three Lords on Minories or Vine Street wine bar drinking white top Skol - tough job..... I did 1997 to 2005 before i saw the light..... Not been back since unless i'm climbing for the City of London Corporation.... Quote
Norman Verona Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 I ran a garage near Warren Street at the top end of Tottenham Court Road. This was back in the late 60s, early 70s. We would go the restaurant at the top of the Post Office Tower about once a month. I had an arrangement with the manager of St Stephens Rest opposite the Houses of Parliament and ate there, with some famouse MPs, once a month. Then we went to Cunninghams in Curzon St once a month. We also went to the Mirrabelle a few times. So, all in all, we dined out well and expensively. Good days. Quote
cast iron Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 The Stiffado from the Arivana restaurant Limmassol Cyprus. Gone but not forgotten Quote
SootySport Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 So far at a local restaraunt called Latinos in Hadliegh, Essex my fav is fillet steak topped with a crouton, Brussels pate and Madiera sauce, a bottle of decent Rioja helps it down. Quote
ajpearson Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 To add to another favourite meal. Served to me on deployement in a current hot and sandy place. The US Compnay OUTBACK came out with fillet steak and lobster, onion rings and fries, all served by their US waitresses in the middle of all that it was a welcome distraction Quote
