AidanPlace Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Was messing about with the camera and took a picture of Dan looking cool, so I thought I would share. I think this summer he's old enough to get the harnesses fastened securely so we can head out in the westy. If he looks this cool, he's allowed to come. Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 very arty - some come on then spill the data Quote
AidanPlace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Easy peasy Cleggy, Flash, any sort will do in a soft box like this Stand the boy in front of it so that the flash shines behind him and only a small amount hits his face. Manual, F8, 200th sec shutter speed turns daytime to night time. You need ray bans or similar :-) Quote
AidanPlace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 http://www.pocketwizard.com/videos/education/webinar8 37.15 onwards but its all a good tutorial Quote
SootySport Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 About time you give him a ride in the Westy. My grandson often phones me in the summer asking for a ride out and he's 6 now. I use a normal booster seat base for him so the belts fit and he has a good view all round. Quote
FILFAN Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 my lad isnt that bothered really (mummys boy) im sure my daughter will though she's mad Quote
AidanPlace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 The booster I have is too wide to fit in the current JK Composites seats. Anyone know of a really narrow booster Quote
Mat Jackson Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I bought a basic foam booster and trimmed it to fit.... Quote
AidanPlace Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 The Mem, wouldn't let me do that, said it might compromise the safety or summat Quote
Graham0127 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 My 6 year old daughter comes out in mine and a trimed booster is fine as long as the harness is fitted properly and under the horns on the sides. She loves a ride in the Westie, screaming constantly, briefly punctuated by `faster daddy` every now and again. My 8 year old son likes it but not as much as her ,he`s more into his motocross...reckons cars are for `woosies`.Scared of my Mille though even when it`s ticking over in the garage!!! SootySport Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 The Mem, wouldn't let me do that, said it might compromise the safety or summat If you buy a cheap rigid polystyreen seat base take the cover off and saw to shape, it's the belts that hold the kids in place. Quote
Tim Reid Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 So what's a good age/size to get them started? My son is going to be 4 this year and has loved sitting in the car since he was born. I think he needs to be a quite a bit older/bigger but how much? Quote
JustCallMeMac Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I took both my son (16) and my daughter (18) on their first trackdays last year, as passengers. Scott was only just old enough for the organisers / tracks we went with / to so best to check, as the minimum age can vary. Apart from having a good day out, bonding with 'Paps,' what was brilliant was how well treated and included they were by others, throughout the entire day. Myself and Kay (HRH) have always had a great time but it was fantastic to see the kids included. My lad was given passenger rides in an Atom, Radical and GT3RS and Ellen blagged outings in an Atom, Nissan GTR, Lotus Exige and a Caterham R500. At least they came away having experienced some proper driving talent, even if it resulted in them becoming a whiter shade of pale for a short time! They also saw how friendly, approachable and helpful, complete strangers can be, from all walks of life and social backgrounds, but with a similar passion. Was an eye opener for them and a good experience. As a result they can't wait to go back. In addition, I also have two new 'deckhands' who now know how to strap the car to the trailer, top up the oil, check and adjust tyre pressures, change wheels etc! In a very short space of time taking the westy out on track has become an outing the whole family can enjoy. Steve PS. Cracking pic by the way!! Quote
Norman Verona Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 maybe this is too young. Our grandson aged 18 months. He'll be 7 next August. Quote
