dombanks Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Pretty simple question really. Is The little fire extinguisher that was in the car for years any then the garagage for years still kosher? The writing is pretty worn on it but I think it says made in 1993 and guaranteed till 1998? If its not then I'm happy to chuck it. All the seals are in place Quote
BEN99W Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I think the clue is in the 1998 bit. Id probably chance it a year or two past the guaranteed date, but not 15 years past... Ben Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 The powder inside will be congealed long since , chuck it . to be honest the small extinguishers are almost useless any way , just about snuff a decent candle with them , you really need a 2\Kg size to be of any practical use IMO Quote
dombanks Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 The age wasn't something I really thought about till her indoors asked how old it was. .... Anyway any idea it you should recycle them or what seems a bit of an odd thing to be just chucking away Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Council tip will dispose of it for you Quote
Norman Verona Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I've got one somewhere that's older than that. It has Renault Boutique written on it and our Renault dealership closed in 1981. Probably 32 years old. Dos it belong in a museum? It must be in the workshop somewhere and it was only this thread that reminded me. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Bin it. I had a plumbed in lifeline system that was due a service and Lifeline refused to touch it as it 10 years old claiming that the cylinder would be weak with age / internal corrosion and therefore deangerous to dabble with. I guess thats why factories and shops etc have their extinguishers checked annually Quote
pistonbroke Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 You can get them re charged but not cost effective for the small ones , doubt even the 2Kg size is worth doing Quote
