Nick PC Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Well see a lot on here about people changing engines on Westies, well trash the engine on a 325d BMW and the engine change is more than the cost of a reasonable car that brings smiles. Collected mine today after it went for a swim in November to find the insurers have had to pay £12000 for a new engine and turbo. The engine was £7500 and the turbo £1500. Should have asked if they would buy me a Duratec or two. Quote
SootySport Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I would be worried about gremlins in the electrics showing themselves in the future if the car was soaked to the chassis, Smelly upholstery and premature rusting are also future problems. I have a cousin who bought a cheap Mondeo a few years ago, he knew it had flood damage but was told by the vendor it was all cleaned up and fixed. Over the next 2 years all the electric items were changed as they all failed one by one, month by month. The damp smell went away in the summer but always returned in the damper winter months, I really don't know how he put up the car for 2 years, eventually sold it on cheap again to some unsuspecting punter. Nick PC Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 Luckily the engine sucked in the water, but also it goes back next year. Fun was that a Kia dealer repaired it!! Quote
Nick PC Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 No just a very good swim, but I kept my feet dry. I share the concerns that you have expressed about other components and wait the error codes. Quote
