Email setup is different to router connection details.

So, do you mean she set up the email details for collection/sending of emails or the connections to the WiFi side of the router?

The email details will be things like email address, server type (POP3 probably), the incoming mail server, the outgoing mail server (SMTP) and then various minor options. If this isn't set up (and it won't do it itself) then emails will not work.

Hope that wasn't to techy and I only use the techy names to help you identify what we're talking about.

You often don't need to provide extra email details such as POP & SMTP addresses these days, the setting needed can be inferred from the email address if it is from one of the major email providers such as a Yahoo or gmail.

To fix these kind of problems I normally google for the exact error message, in this case the one that says there are spaces in the password. Sounds like the error message could be misleading and there is some other issue.

Kevin, I wondered that as I typed. However all the email addies I have need fully setting up with server data for both ways.

Hard to know how many will always need manual config but I have started to notice that auto-configuration is getting much better these days so I try and use first and go manual only if really needed.  Slightly OT, but (re)setting up email details is probably the #1 support request I get from family/friends. It's obviously not that hard to do really but its a real blind spot for people who don't have any kind of tech background, so I try to avoid it as always leads to a site visit to fix up.

Must admit, 7 years out of the jungle and I'm way behind. I think the settings for email are more confusing until you explain that emails don't arrive at your computer they're collected.

Anyway, if Greenandmean's description is correct then I suspect it is to do with email settings. I'm assuming the device is connected to the net as he hasn't said it isn't.

Maybe more info will help.

For Talk Talks own email (probably called webmail) there are probably two ways to access it.

First way would be by going to the Talk Talk website and entering the username and password directly to the website.

Second way would be if you wanted to use an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird or whatever email client is built in to the tab if there is one. If the second way is what you want then you will need to add POP and SMTP information to the email client itself to set it up.

Email is talk talk, pop&smtp servers are both talktalk.net

Works fine with the laptop but not with the tablet.

How are you wanting to access the email?

Are you using Outlook or similar or via the website?
