superscub Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 in the middle of a build and come across the problem of matching up the gauges with the westfield loom.Westfield have supplied extra spade connectors and wiring but no instructions of what wire goes where.Help! Quote
Welly Jen Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Some questions for you, Are these Westfield supplied extension pieces to adapt the loom for ETB instruments and plug in to the existing loom instrument plugs? If so, do the colours on the extensions match the colours on the loom? What are the wire colours you have? Are they separate gauges, or the ETB digital dash? A good guide to wiring colours that Westfield seem to use (British Standard) is here. I only have one ETB instrument on my car at the moment, a speedo and I just altered the Westfield loom to suit. For each instrument there will only be a few wires. Typically ignition switched 12V, ground, side light switched instrument lighting 12V, lighting ground and a signal in from the sender, tacho signal, or speedo sensor. ETB have wiring diagrams on their web site. Once you know the ignition switched, ground and instrument lighting colours, then these will be the same for all the instruments and you only have one wire to work out for each one after that. Speedo sender is a little more complex as you need to use screened cable and ground the shield at one end. Jenny Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 If you pm me your email I should be able to find some stuff WF sent me which helps. The colours are a total mismatch. WF supply leads with spade connectors to push onto the three pin plugs on the loom but I replaced them with proper three way connectors. Doug Quote
Andy Rob Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I found it a bit of trial and error. There are at least 2 circuits at play on each gauge. One to the gauge from whatever sensor it is reading and one to illuminate the gauge. The illumination live is an orange colour and goes in the top middle plug in the gauge. One last thing I found is that some gauges can have the odd spade terminal which are not connected (there are usually some spare earths). The speedo is the most difficult, but Jon's blog is a great guide http://2js-westfield-build.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/18-september-2012-speedo-fixed.html?m=1 Good luck with it! Quote
housebuilder Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Have you sorted this yet? I have my dash off at the moment so could email you a picture and a list if that would help? the extension wire colours bare no resemblance to the colour of the wires on the gauges very helpfully! Quote
