Must watch TV.

The freesat PVR is king in our house- even the kids spend a while with the tv guide to select what they (really) want to watch (record) so live TV is almost out for us now - no more inane ads for DFS or whatever!!

The 2000 year old time machine programme was fascinating ..

Once upon a time there were long empty intervals between programmes , these were filled by   "The Interlude "

You could watch for e.g. "The Potters Wheel " captivating viewing ?

or you got to watch Goldfish swimming around inside a bowl ( I kid you not )  .

Daytime TV we had long hours of "the test card " displayed ( for the benefit of us engineers ).

either of the above were infinitely more interesting than most of todays televised dross , and cost almost nothing to produce  :t-up:

You've given me an idea for a program.

"Britain's Next Test Card Model"

Would fit in well with a lot of what's on.

Don't forget the little girl with the clowns.

Ah yes ! Test card F

Everything , even the little girl and clown doll had a purpose on the test card , the X in the noughts and crosses marked the exact center of the shadow mask screen , it was used to check and if needed re align the static convergence of the 3 electron beams used to produce the picture .
