stickymint Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I have a Linksys Wireless G ADSL router, this is several years old and I am looking at replacing it. I run a small network, two PC's run off the router, plus other up to two laptops and shortly an ipad. I use Plusnet for my broadband. What is the best router to go for? Quote
Blatman Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 No such thing as "best"... Options I offer to my customers are either Netgear or Linksys and of course your budget will be a factor. Netgear NGN2200 (N300) at about 70 quid or the DGND3700 (N600) at around 107 quid. Linksys WAG120N at about 41 quid or X3000 at about 82 quid. All of them are Wireless N. Prices are from Misco for the first 3, Dabs for the last one. Of those I would choose the X3000. I have successfully installed all of them in customer sites and all perform well in my experience, but the X3000 has proved to be the most stable with excellent wireless coverage. In larger premisies where range is an issue I add Cisco WAP121 or WAP321 access points using TP Link 200Mb/s ethernet powerline adapters again available from Misco and Dabs etc... Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Plusnet supplied me one for free when I had connection problems. I presume you're having problems too so why not call them- I've always found them to be helpful, although it may mean answering a few questions and trying to plug it into the test socket etc. If you're not having problems, why change? Blatman Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I have found the consumer routers supplied by ISP's have a life of about 5 years beore they fail and will start to slow down well before this. This ssumes they are left on for long periods. If they are switched off when not in use they may well last longer. Asking your provider is a good shout though. They may supply for free. Quote
