ALANBEAL Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Hi On my rebuild I am using a new chassis the radiator and mountings together with a strange anti-roll bar do not match up any ideas on what parts to get to tidy up the front end The ARB has a strange shape in the middle to miss the fan.The old radiator mountings come off the top of the upper cross member the bottom mounting (Sorry Matt) is poor Regards Alan Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Which radiator are you trying to use? If it's a new chassis I'm assuming the brackets are all set in the position for a polo radiator. Quote
SootySport Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I guess you'll have to fabricate suitable mountings youself. I made my own Polo rad. mounts easily. Quote
ALANBEAL Posted December 18, 2012 Author Posted December 18, 2012 Hi I do not think the radiator fitted is a POLO rad I was hoping to be able get some ready made mountings but not knowing what is available Alan Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 Pictures wood help us identify exactly whats wrong If you're looking to get brackets for a polo rad then these are available from WF for a few pounds. However if you're looking for something that works with what you already have then I guess that may depend on what rad you have, but you may need to fabricate your own. Possibly a good time for a radiator upgrade? Quote
ALANBEAL Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Hi I was thinking that an upgrade may be a good idea, any recomendations what rad to go for as prices and specs vary regards Alan Quote
SootySport Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Need to know what engine you have and what sort of power you have. Polo rads seem to suit most engines up to 2Litres and a bit of tune. Golf rads are a bit thicker and wider for higher power. Radtec for the 250bhp and above. Quote
ALANBEAL Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Hi The car has a 2.0ltr Zetec engine on jenvey throttle bodies to be fair I do not like the plastic parts fitted to the current radiators but the radtec ones seem quite expensive I want the best of both worlds Alan Quote
SootySport Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 The modern rads are all aluminium and plastic so a not lot of choice there and cheap Polo rads are as little as £25 so no big deal if they fail. Yep, you'll have to pay top dollar for an all alloy one. Quote
ALANBEAL Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Hi I looked on a web site for POLO rads and the choice seemed endless what one should I choose,I also saw a pro comp one advertised recently.I think I read on a post that you have to be careful of over cooling so I am still at a loss Alan Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 You need the 1983-90 Derby / Terra / polo radiator http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271097736301 There's plenty of discussion in the archives about fitting them Quote
SootySport Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Your right there, any polo rad that fits in the nosecone will do, bleed nipple and the pipe in and outlet position has to be considered, you are bound to end up changing the rad hoses as well. I changed the fan to a slimline 11" electricFan from CBS on line and it shifts a lot of air. My rad core is 395mm x 330mm. and is 32mm. thick, this is the minimum size to suit a mildly tuned 2.0 litre engine, and survives trackdays and warm weather although I've only had it 1 year and no hot weather since so mine is still under trial. The Procomp rad certainly will do the job, you can make it inefficient if it overcools. Quote
