Washing Machines.....

Recommended Posts

OK - no Westy content, except if someone can save me some pennies then it might leave more to spend on the car....!

Need a new washing machine.....after 12 years use/abuse the "Appliance of Science" is coming to the end of its days - had a couple of repairs already, now leaking  ???

Anyone got any recommendations of either machines or where to buy?????

How the #### you decide between one and another I just don't know, but I am definitely not going to rely on "Spotty Youth's" recommendations in Comet/Currys/et al.....

Thanks Guys

(I'm sure there's plenty of potential for p*** taking here, so should prove amusing, even if uninformative!!;)

Well, you will need one with the highest spin speed you can get & the lowest 'Energy rating' if you're careful with your money :p

Energy rating is denoted by by A-E (maybe F) don't be fooled by it having an 'energy save' button as that will take longer to do the washing.

Have a look on kelkoo.co.uk for them?

What does it need to do just wash clothes or a 'spin dryer'?

Anything higher than 1200rpm spin speed is good & good 'temperature range' although ours is always on 40 degrees C.  Will it need to have a delicate wash cycle for the things you should hand wash but can't be bothered?

Ours is a whirlpool £200 from Comet! ;)

Thanks Guys - amazing, no p*** takes.....!

Mike - thanks for confirming things to look for. Machine is for washing only btw.

Westy - yep - found empire direct but problem is, as you say, which bl**** one!!

I know people say it about cars, but these washing machines definitely all look the same.......!!

Yes its gone to a 17 year old spotty driver who has installed neons lights and replaced the backseats with a single 2000 watt sub.

But there’s plenty more in Essex if you want me to source you one :D

Not much interest on the cardy mobile yet though

I can thoroughly recommend Hotpoint. Ours has run every day for the last ten years without so much as a hint of a problem. Avoid Bosch and Neff, my wife uses them at work apparently they are quite slow. Other problem, when they go wrong, think BMW servicing prices

I always buy electrical stuff from Curry's reason being if it doesn't work, parts missing when it arrives etc then a big firm like Currys can sort it out quicker and are more amenable to skilled complaints artistes like me

John

edited to say PS buy the simplest model that does basic washing stuff with decent spin speed. MY wife only ever uses 2 programmes on hers

I've been thinking Hotpoint as I have a contact who can do the repairs when worst comes to worst.

Totally agree re. the programmes - I reckon we've only used 5 out of those available in last 12 years!!

On the other hand to get the quick spinners, you usually have to go to models which are loaded with features too! Reminds me of buying cars.....!!

Thanks for all the help and opinions.

Westy, is it a Facel Vega....?

Chrisbin, good effort but afraid its not a Facel Vega, aka  mega facial.

Wrightster, no worries let me know when you want an XR.  The one I sold originally came with 2 blondes on the back seat. I asked them why they were their and they both said their stilettos where stuck in the roof.

As for new project, cheap westy has been sourced just have to decide on cec or turbo'd bec ???

Best bet Check out the which report on consumer goods. You will get an unbiased view for a bit of research. Funny point some women like one which vibrates on fast spin can't think why. :0

OK Hotpoint WMA44P

1200rpm

AA Energy Efficiency

Half load

Quick wash

Empire Direct - £254.99.....but £32.99 del'y

Comet & Currys online - £299 free del'y

Comet & Currys in store - £329 free del'y

But Currys in store can offer 6 months interest free......and they're local if I have a problem............

Try www.ukappliances.co.uk

Just saved ourselves over £ 400 on Cooker, Hood & Hob.

What is more, goods were delivered directly from the manufacturer (in this case Electrolux).

Curent Washer / Dryer is Hotpoint - 1 year old no problems at all, but also never had problem with previous Whirlpool.
