Different shape/size steering wheels

Just out of curiosity, what do people think about the different shapes and sizes of sterring wheels out there?

Is 270mm or 260mm too small? Is a D-shaped wheel difficult to get used to? What about the really rectangular looking one which I personally think looks awesome!! Does anyone have any experience with that one?

I have a D shape Momo wheel, not sure which size it is but pretty small. It's not much bother to use at all, feels a bit odd the first couple of times when turning the wheel fully around but nothing that puts me off it

When I bought my current Westy it came with a quick rack and a tiny D shaped wheel.  The two together were more than I could manage with comforty and safety in mind.  I swapped the wheel for a 290mm round one - much better thank goodness.

I'm guessing the small d-shape are ideal for track work where your hands should remain in a fixed position on the wheel and the bottom of the wheel is flat allowing for a closer seating position. Bigger round wheels are for the more nonchalant driving style? I make it up as I go really

In the year i've had my westi it had 300 round Mountney(old school) when bought.

I tried a D shape 280 for more knee room, could'nt get on with it at all.

Settled for a MOMO Team 280mm, it has an offset centre boss giving the best of both worlds.

Has a great feeI to it I love it !!

How about this for a rectangular steering wheel? Would look good in a Westfield. :p

Didn't think of that. It would fit straight on.

I ran a 270mm one for a few years. Looked lovely and felt good too, but it directly contributed to my getting tennis elbow due to the added strain. Swapped back to the 300mm and the pain in my arm disappeared.

I went small purely for knee clearance. A d shape would not have helped me as my knees are either side rather than under the wheel. I am a bit...well...'lurch'

I'm getting on fine with a 270, but I also fitted a spacer and quick release which moved the wheel closer to me. This made it more comfortable and made control easier.

If kneeroom's not an issue I'm not sure why you'd go small. I thought about whether I use the bottom of the wheel and I'd definatly hate a D shape.

But that's one thing about westfields and owners.....they're all really different :d

I have a small "D" shaped wheel which is open at the top. I don't have to remove my hands from the wheel other for parking as I have a 1.5 turn lock-to-lock rack. I can see the gauges in front of me (Tacho, oil pressure and water temp).

However I know it's not everyones cup of tea.
