iain m Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 After 30years of BMWs its time for a change, I was looking for a 2010/2011 Merc C220 CDI AMG Sport Blue Efficiency as my wife refuses to drive 5 and 7 series BMWs so this was a car we could both use 7/10k miles pa. These are just not about and it was suggested I try a petrol version, I was impressed with the C180 which is a 1.6 supercharged motor which returns a lower mpg (40) than the diesel but similar fuel cost considering the diesel premium. Strange that the 2012 model is back to 1.8 and now turbocharged ( Cost saving I was told ) but noticable turbo lag without improved performance. I have had numerous 6 cylinder turbo diesels and Mercedes Benz and Kompressor motors are new to me, anyone have any good/bad experiences they care to share?? Quote
Tyson Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 You wont go far wrong with a Merc, i worked for them for 16 years and have owned 5 in the past. I have a petrol AMG Sport Blue Efficiency at the moment which is a lovely car and with the sport model you have tiptronic, normal auto and paddle gears. If you are only going to 7/10 k it is much cheaper to have a petrol. Quote
iain m Posted December 10, 2012 Author Posted December 10, 2012 Thanks Tyson Can you achieve 40ish mpg, the couple I have tested indicate 25/30 but may have been shunted around the dealerships. BMW fuel consumtion figures are usually spot on but there are plenty that are on the wrong side of optimistic. Quote
Tyson Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I never normally work out my fuel economy but i roughly worked it out this morning and i would say i always get a return of 40mpg from it, thats motorways and town use. Next time i fill up i will do a more accurate check. Before i bought my present 3 year old car i was going to buy a diesel, but when i worked everything out covering about 12k miles pa. The petrol was a far better bet. The AMG Sport is the best one for looks, resale and spec. Quote
Norman Verona Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 I went for the diesel A6 because of doing the UK to Here and back run. However we've only been back once this year. Normally fill it once a month. Quote
