VIN Plate

Hopefully the last stupid question as I only have one bit left to fit!

Where do you fit the VIN plate?! :durr:

Most fit it on the scuttle I believe

This extract from the IVA Manual might help. Front face of the scuttle seems to be favourite for most.

  1. The vehicle must be fitted with a manufacturer’s plate, in a conspicuous and readily accessible position.

  2. The manufacturer’s plate must be made of a durable material.

  3. The manufacturer’s plate must be indelibly marked with the
manufacturer’s name and the vehicle identification number.

  4. The manufacturer’s plate must be fitted to a part of the vehicle that will not be replaced through normal use.

Mine's fitted to the scuttle, above the pedal box cover by the coolant expansion tank - no problem during the IVA last month

Have to honest Nipolina I haven't applied for it yet. TBH I felt a bit like I had lost a close friend whenI finished it!

It was the build not the driving that appealed to me.

I am Thinking of taking it to Northampton MS to have it set up correctly and possibly mapped first.

I know what you mean, I really miss the building too! Hadn't realised how much time I was spending in the garage until it was finished...

Have lots of tweaks and mods I am dying to get at, but some of them may not be IVA friendly - so am going to have to wait a couple of weeks!

Ha! yes the mrs said I had started to get under her feet today and I haven't heard that in a while!

I think a new project is called for but I supposeI had better drive it first!

Good luck with the test. When is it booked for?

One of these would be ok then.

I thought possible legal issues there.

Durable material and indelibly marked. Can't see a problem with this.

It was more the fact it had been changed that worried me. Just as I know of a guy with a Robin Hood (sliding pillar) who couldn't be arsed with IVA and just got one in bits that had mot left... Put plates on his and got a new mot when the other ran out.

So I was concerned over potential issue that I may have been thought to have done similar. But chassis no. On v5 will be same as chassis, so same as vin plate.

This day week for my test Housebuilder.

Wrong time of the year to have it roadworthy, but the plan is to make the best use of it next year.

I have been looking for another project too, maybe doing up a classic car. This build has given me some confidence around cars - that, and those Wheeler Dealer type shows, which make it all look easy.....

Think I will just settle myself with the Westie for the meantime!

:d Just 'cause the car's passed IVA, and you've done everything the build manual told you to, don't assume the car's finished! :p

I'm not talking about upgradeitus either!

You've merely got it to the stage where it's legal to start doing the on-road shake down and testing, ready for all the final development work to either turn it in to a well rounded car or one more focused in some particular performance aspect. (Whether that's 1/4 mileing, trackdays, touring or whatever).

Westfield have provided the good basic building blocks to work with. But it is just a start!
