Atlas12v Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Been snooping about for a few months researching and reading on here. Have now joined prompted by a healthy insurance discounts. I'm from North Kent and I bought this Saturday. Then collected on Sunday, all went well until the rain came. Enough rain to scare Noah! Bought this from a nice guy in Surrey. 1992 SE with CXE20 Redtop on Webber Twin 45s running in theory 170-180 bhp. Very please with it. Would like to do a few bits in the short term. New Harnesses with proper split locations behind the seats. Proper roll bar, Play Skool or similar. New wheels and tyres, probably drop to 13" on 185/60R13 R888 or similar. Few rough pics from seller and one from it's new home. Home, drying out... Comments and advice welcome. Cheers Steve Quote
SootySport Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 It's yellow and a C20XE engine, so it's gotta be good. Unusual seats there. doesn't look like it's seen much of the road considering it's a '92 car. Roll on dry days eh! Quote
Captain Colonial Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Welcome to the club - thanks for joining! Looks to my eyes like a very nice and loved example of a standard (narrow) body, judging from the position of the rear lights, but I stand to be corrected as usual (see disclaimer at end of signature). Best advice is just to spend a few months and get to know and enjoy it before thinking about upgradeitis, save your pennies for 2013 and bring them to Stoneleigh for the National Kit Car Show in early May, lots of suppliers and goodies to be had there and you'll probably have a more firm idea of what you want to do then. Have fun! Quote
Geoff101 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Seats are standard narrow but look like they've been re-trimmed to match the car. If you want two top harness mounts, you'll need to buy some 7/16UNF harness bosses and have them welded onto the chassis top member as only the single central one is present as standard on a narrow. Atlas12v Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Thanks guys. Also looking at options for a lid for the bootbox? Any ideas that won't need a remortgage? Was thinking maybe some 2 or 3mm acrylic cut to suit shape and then decide on fixings, doesn't necessarily need to lock. Quote
Captain Colonial Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 AFTER you change the roll bar, obviously - don't want to do it twice! BTW, I see the bonnet has been altered, probably to suit whatever engine was previously in it (Pinto, maybe?). You can still get new narrow bonnets from the factory by order, or perhaps take your time and get a suitable used one (or repair the existing one) and have it resprayed if needed - black might be nice as a contrast. Just a nosey thought! Quote
leighc Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 nice purchase chap - what revs does the tacho go to? Looks like a set of bike clocks. Like the colour coded dash, looks very minimalist. My ABS sheet for the bootbox was from Playskool. Quote
leighc Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 p.s. might be worth changing the escort rad for a polo rad as and when - would be a shame to change the water piping though, looks quite tidy. Quote
Geoff101 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Nothing wrong with the old type rad as long as it's sound. Mine cooled just as well as the polo rad I replaced it with - I only swapped 'cos it was leaking. The old ones weigh a ton but not enough to change it for no reason. Quote
Atlas12v Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 p.s. might be worth changing the escort rad for a polo rad as and when - would be a shame to change the water piping though, looks quite tidy. Thanks Leigh, the quy just updated some of the cooling system last week as it was running quite cold with out a thermostat. So he added one and updated some of the pipe work while he was there. Do you know if the inlets/outlets are different on the polo to std? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Not sure what the Escort rad uses but the Polo is 32 mm diameter inlet/outlets. Quote
Geoff101 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 The bottom hose on the standard (Ford type) and polo rad are on opposite sides (the polo rad has everything on the nearside). You also need different brackets and to do something with the bleed connection on the polo rad (either plumb it back to the header tank or block it) as this doesn't exist on the Ford radiator. If it works then I would just leave well alone for the moment. Quote
FILFAN Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Welcome along Nice looking car Fave colour and engine I also have a 92 but have the wide body. Mainly to get my ass in. I have also converted the harness mounts to take two fixings. There is a eBay seller at the min selling 7/16 harness mounts £8 for 2 I think they are. They are 50mm so they could be cut down to give you 4x 25mm bushes. You will of course need to weld them in Happy motoring Quote
alexander72 Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 looks good - welcome from another newbie!!! Quote
