Help Please! Audi A3 Gearbox Issue - Now Solved, Thanks

Recommended Posts

Can anyone advise on this one? The missus came home in her Audi A3 (2.0 TFSi Turbo) last night and had to negotiate the floods of the South West. She's smart enough not to go through the really deep stuff, but there were some unavoidable deep bits that had to be negotiated.

This morning, car starts and runs fine, but I'm unable to select any gear. Stick moves but nothing selects.

Any clues, Chasps? Water in gearbox causing hydraulic lock? Electronic sensor somewhere water logged? Any advice before I have to call in the pros gratefully received.....

I can see many £££££ being spent..... :( :( :arse:

I cant see it being anything water related, more likely an issue with the linkage , you can see the linkage on top of the box if its the same as the diesel so get someone to waggle and see whats going on.

I'm with Jeff, I'd say something broken in the gear linkage if you can move the stick (does it feel light/floppy like its disconnected?)

Thanks for the replies. I've just tried again after thinking to check whether the gears selected with the engine off - which they did, suggesting a clutch issue.

With a combination of lifting the clutch while trying to select each gear, brute force and some choice anglo saxon words, I've managed to get the selector working. It drove out and back into the garage OK so touch wood, it seems to be OK......

hopefully that's panic over...
