pistonbroke Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Any one her know 'owt about Worcester greenline 24i boilers ? problem is we have been having alterations done to the kitchen , during which the supply pipes to the boiler have been re routed (just been tidyed up so they look neater ) Now the thing wont ignite and the plumber we had to do the job has tried but cant find the problem . When we switch on it makes the right noises and the blue light comes on , then after a short while the blue light on the front starts flashing and the burner wont ignite . Its about 5 years old now and was serviced annually by worcester but we forgot to renew the contract this year due to the house being unoccupied Any help gratefully received Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Try page 58 to identify the fault code from the blue flasing light http://www.plumbnation.co.uk/site/worcester-greenstar-24i-junior-combi-boiler--flue---mt10-clock-pack/worcester-greenstar-junior-instruction-guide.pdf Quote
tom mcmillan Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Has the gas pipe been altered aswell? I've had this a couple of times and it's been purely that the previous plumber hasn't purged all the air out of the gas pipe so all that is going through the burner is air during ignition. As above though you need to identify what fault code the flashing light is indicating Quote
Leftfield Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Start with the basics, fuel and ignition Is the gas on at the meter? Is the isolating valve below the boiler on? Has the line been been tested and purged ? Has the electrode and probe been changed in the last 5 years, may just need cleaned up. I would go for purging as the most likely. Quote
Norman Verona Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 No, none of that. It needs a new battery. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I ain't got any lights on my 1971 Potterton! It just fires up and bangs for a while... Quote
V8grunt Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Sounds like the waffle flange has broken off the throttle thrust shaft, This can be sorted by a qualified Gas safe plumber, ( They normally carry one or two of them in there van! ) Seriously, If the purging does not work, get a Gas fitter out and then renew the warrenty. 4 years old?? evo97 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Had a similar problem with my Worcester (can't recall model) Was not used while on holiday and upon return wouldn't ignite. Turned out to be the fan unit. Nathan http://www.uk-plumbing.com/worcester-24i-and-28i-junior-fan-87161056520-p-34587.html Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Thanks for the replies boys , the plummer recons he purged the gas and the gas cooker works fine so we can eliminate that . the fault code points us to the condenser unit discharge being blocked of faulty syphon unit . HID has organised an approved fixer to call and take a look so hopefully it will soon be sorted and I can get back to the more important things in life , like getting my model airoplane to fly ! Mooch Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I ain't got any lights on my 1971 Potterton! It just fires up and bangs for a while... I've got a 1962 'old boiler' that does that. Still a good wife, though! Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I've got a 1962 'old boiler' that does that. Still a good wife, though! Oh boy, mine goes back farther than that! More 'pop' than bang these days... Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 The first boiler we had was a self install Potterton , big flue running up through ceiling in the kitchen I bought it 2nd hand , must have been 20 years old and we had itfor 25 or more , the only maintenance was removing the gas burner every 12 months or so and cleaning the craapp out of it , built like the preverbial brick boghouse , wish we had kept it but HID wanted something a bit more modern looking , didn't argue cos they always knows best Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 The man called tonight , suspects the fan is US as there is 240v supply there but it aint spinning , needs to contact worcester tech tommorow to confirm and order a replacement sounds like it could be costly , another argument for pre histerical low tech , no fans on the old kit , just need to give em a poke with something big and heavy nowand again to show em who'se the boss Quote
Dommo Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Fills me with confidence - I'm about to get my boiler replaced for one of these Quote
tom mcmillan Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 If i remember correctly, to the fan you should get 240v ac at the purple wire and 130v ac at the others Quote
