langy Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I've had a Toyota, and I agree they are boring. I've got a Toyota engine Quote
Mat Jackson Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Or maybe this is a very clever marketing ploy... If it becomes well known and publicised that the advert was banned because it showed the car to be too 'exciting', that might be worth more than the advert itself...... Quote
kevip6 Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 It's not so much the banning of the ad that's a problem for me it's the wording of the advertising restrictions. Just seems ridiculous that they're controlling what we can be shown to that level? Quote
jeff oakley Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 This has been driven by idiots who cannot see the differance between an advert and real life. FA is correct in his view about the ASA, they have banned so many adverts not because they are misleading, but because of the effect it may have on people. So we have the situation where they can show an advert for call of duty blowing things to bits with guns etc and need for speed where cars are racing but we cannot have this advert for a real car because two people, yes just two people have complained. Is this a good situation where the opinions of two people is all that it takes to get something banned? Why dont we all complain about the no win no fee vulture adverts, I find them misleading, in fact they activly promote people to claim money they clearly should not get for a minor accident. I hope you follow this through FA but I suspect they will just ignore reasoned arguments Quote
Mat Jackson Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 That's a good point Jeff... The no win, no fee culture is far more harmfull than anything portrayed in the Toyota ad... Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I would say lots of adverts are far worse. E.g. the XBOX and other games adverts not to mention the gambling adverts Quote
Norman Verona Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Not sure if you've seen day time TV ads. It's almost obscene how the ads are aimed at taking money from the bored housewife and elderly. Quote
dombanks Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 So why don't we all make a stance and start complaining about loads of adverts that gets your goat. See how many we can get banned Quote
BEN99W Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Who the hell complained about the ad? Must have been a rival car manufacturer. Its a messed up world when advertising can legitimately turn women into self obsessed anorexics, or encourage people into debt or to sue the NHS, but can't help people make an informed decision about the second biggest purchase they're likely to make. SootySport Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I just don't watch adverts of any sort, TV, Newspapers etc. I have the canny knack of seeing straight through them, my mind just automatically thinks of something more pleasing. Scum of the advertising world are Door To Door sellers. Quote
Meakin Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I want to know how come a car advert that shows a car being enjoyed is banned, yet the lego adverts my 5 year son sees shows lego starwars figures coming alive and marching across a lounge floor in a great battle. hmmm.... It took ages for me to explain to my child that all you actually got was a plastic model not real live creatures that fought in your lounge. Seems ok to lie to children, but not ok for adults to see a car being used for enjoyment. Quote
SootySport Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I've got a Toyota engine I hope it is better than the 2.2 diesel D4D. Quote
