If you had a bit of cash, a dry empty barn, what would you buy now to store away and wait to become a future classic... I remember looking a Seirra cossie and few years back, immaculate condition about 40k on the clock. Cant remember when, but it was when nobody could insure them, it was on the forecourt of a local garage for £2200 IIRC... would be worth a few more now... Loads around at the moment but the poor ones are near being uneconomical to repair so will be scrapped and the good ones are be bought as track day toys or modified e.g. the one I bought ). - Renault Clio V6 (Has everything going for it to make it a classic) - Lotus Elise series 1 - Peugeot 205 Gti - Sierra/Sapphire Cosworth Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I agree on the Mx5 and Elise's so many have been turned into track nails or just run into the ground, genuine good condition and most importantly untouched cars may start to gain value. User0083 Posted November 19, 2012 Share Posted November 19, 2012 Mine's much more low key than these... i had a 1970's mini. started life with me as a barn find when i was 15, re-built it pretty much. clearly had help with sub frames and bodywork. i re-sprayed it and did a lot of the engine work, it got it's first MOT just after my 17th and had a 890cc engine. as all boys do i spent all hard earned money on the car, classic buckets, deep dish 13's, uprated brakes... suspension and so on. during re-build i had full metal respray in metallic parker blue. but the fun started when i changed engines... 1275. months later stage 3 head, fast road cams and lots of other bits over a couple of years. then i had it bored out to 1380cc and pistons changed. then i found a 1450cc turbo lump out of a mg metro turbo from some one. reconditioned and had 176bhp!!! some moron not only stole it and wrapped it around the tree at the end of the drive! insurance were completely unreal! still on property so not stolen. and a complete chew there! but only car i miss other then my westfield when i leave it and take the train somewhere! My Uncle talked me into buying a new Mini for £477 (ALE 477B, funny how some you never forget). I did because I reckoned the mini would help pull more birds than the TC. Big mistake! I had a 1600TC and a 2.0EFi Jeez I thought my brother was the only one daft enough to have two - the 1600 was a POS - talking dashboard and a pair of carbs that woudlnt balance and drank fuel - nobody at the AustinRover dealership knew how to tune the things - he went from the Maestro to a Rover 216 with the vvc engine - great engine , horrible car .In fact he still has horrible cars - a 10 yr old MGZR with the V6 engine that he loves like the dog it is. I'm currently sitting on an E34 535i BMW, a Mk1 Audi TT and an Alfa 156. These are all dirt cheap at the moment and as such litter council estates everywhere, but one day I know I'm going to wish I had a barn to tuck them up in.
