We were in Galway in May 2011 and were staying with a health service manager. She was telling us just how the very deep cuts in health care were affecting the system. Then HM was taken to Galway University Hospital (twice). We saw for ourselves people in A&E being left on trolleys in the corridors because there was no beds available. 3 wards had been closed as the couldn't pay for the nurses.
