Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO
Your in a job for 2 months and the poo hits the fan, so you think sod this, jack it in and do a runner. Then yer boss decides to give 12 months wages as a payoff :bangshead: Where can i get a job like that? it doesn't have to be a mega salary, say 25k a year will do. Captain Colonial
Has to be a job at which you're unsuitable and incompetent. Unfortunately, I doubt there's much you couldn't turn your hand to, Paul.
tolf
I am looking for a job like that: That payoff has got "bent" written all over it, its disgusting what a liberty.

cast iron
are we talking about the head of the BBC or any premiership football manager
Norman Verona
BBC just reported that Cameron has criticised the £450,000 pay off. Not nearly £2 million as reported elsewhere. However, I agree, why has he been paid anything. He resigned, if we are to believe the Chairman of the trust and the ex DG. If I was ever to have left a job without notice period I would have had the wages owed docked.
ajpearson
He has only reseigned from the DG position, he is still working at the BBC, and is still involved in the Saville investigation team
Norman Verona
The new DG has taken action over the news management team. There was 2 separate teams because those involved in pulling the Savile programme were separated from the rest of the management team. One of the first thing I learnt when promoted to senior management was that the longer the command chain the more errors made. Let alone having more than one chain. Whoever came up with this idea needs sacking. Oh, he just resigned, didn't he. The new DG has came across as a really firm hand who will get it sorted. Unless it's all talk. echoz
I really do hate this country more and more with every passing day! There is no hope for people my age that have go to tolerate this for the next 50 years of their life! Makes me so angry!
Norman Verona
Echoz, when you say country what exactly do you mean. The earth that the country rests on or the people that populate it. Or do you mean the people who govern us, commonly called politicians. Well, if it's the last then you and everyone else has a choice. Don't vote them in. Now I know that it's difficult when they're all the same and it's almost impossible to tell one policy from another. Maybe the answer is to vote for my "Common Sense Party", I'd really start it up properly if there was enough support. The problem is that there is so much ambivalence about politicians (no surprise there) that I know it would fail. Yes, I agree with you. Why not move to France, politicians here do as they are requested by the population.
echoz
The country as a piece of land is beautiful, and we have some of the greatest architecture in the world, so it definitely isn't that. I hate all the people who refuse to so much as lift a finger top earn money for themselves, that would rather just sponge off the hard working amongst us, it infuriates me daily when i see and read about people getting this and that, 50 inch tv here, xbox 360 here, new computer there, holiday here and so on and so forth, when i work 40 hours a week and can't afford anything. I hate the politicians that allow all this, and the general misery that our country has become. I hate that they get paid mega money for what to me, is essentially a job that involves pushing a pen around the majority of the time, and to me really does nothing for me! I haven't heard nor read anything in the last 12 months that helps me in the slightest. Whereas soldiers and such like get paid a pittance! My oldman said last vote, that if I didn't vote, I didn't have a right to moan, so I voted, and i watched the leadership change from Labour to a Conservative/Liberal Democrat leadership, so far I have seen nothing change. I will not be voting next time as I honestly see no point! Politicians mean nothing to me, I think they are all disgusting vile human beings, people have spent time in prison for less than what some of them are doing/have done! If it wasnt for my friends and a few select members of my family, I would be moving abroad as soon as a chance arose! But my friends and family are what get me through my rather mundane and lacking at times life, without them, not even the best government in a model society could make me happy. So I guess we just have to put up with it Edited November 12, 2012 by echoz
XTR2Turbo
He resigned, if we are to believe the Chairman of the trust and the ex DG. Reading Chris Pattens letter to the House of Commons - he resigned but would have been sacked if he hadn't resigned. That is why CP should go as he appointed him in the first place. Fat Albert
Norm Firstly Entwhistle had been the Director general of the BBC for 54 days! No one, except a politician, could consider him responsible for any 'structure' in the Beeb, likely he'd only just found out where the toilets were. Secondly, in addition to his years salary he received an £877,000 contribution to his BBC pension plan, which is surprising at a time when the BBC pension fund has a deficit approaching 20%, primarily because of a failed 'moral' investment policy which shifted funds from 'non green' to 'green' companies. Norman Verona
FA, he's been at the Beeb for 23 years, and was head of news (or whatever they call it) before taking up the DG post. It was he who created the dual stream management at Newsnight which, it would appear, has caused the latest fiasco. It now appears that he was contractually entitled to half if he resigned. Pattens letter to the culture committee admits that they would have sacked him if he hadn't resigned. In that case I take it that a deal was done for him to jump instead of being pushed and they would pay him the push money. At least one politicians called for calm and not to think about breaking the BBC up over this storm in a teacup.
