markcoopers Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 James, bring it up to me and I'll chuck a thermostat in it.....you can measure up the mondial for the trailer as cullompton is on the cards again and I am out of miles on the car now. Quote
Pubcrawler Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 hehehe - cheers Martin...do you think i need one - as the fan cuts in to reduce temperatures quickly - or is the issue maintaining enough heat in the engine at running speed.... i'm no mechanic so would welcome the advice... James If you are running the car during the colder periods then I would stick one in as more damage can be done when an engine is ran under its designed temperature at high revs IMHO . The fan only cuts in when the water temp in the top hose reaches its set temp whereas the guage reads the temp in the block........I'm sure a more learn-ed member will be along soon to advise Quote
alexander72 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Cheers Martin - i'm sure this excellent forum will help me. Mark Coopers - sounds like a plan.. what is the kerb weight of the mondial and when do you need it taking to cullompton mate? Quote
markcoopers Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Tis a bit of a lady beast, 1503kgs apparently. Max width of 1810mm and length of 4535mm. Track is almost the same as the width. No date confirmed, I am supposed to give available dates and get it all booked up, but I am probably looking at December now as I am flat out and traveling for work again soon. But doing your car is no more than 1hour all done, and 30 mins of that will be letting the water cool down before we empty the rad and 20 mins will be getting the air locks out. Quote
davos Posted November 13, 2012 Author Posted November 13, 2012 Hi thanks all. Took out the thermo which did not open when covered with boiling water. Put in an 82c replacement and now all the hoses are hot and running at max 90c. Will now check the timing while the nose cone is of, the previous owner said he had retarded the ignition to make it more driveable which might have added to the problem. Just waiting for the strobe light from ebay, Dave Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 If you advance the ignition to the recommended static degrees (can't remember the figure) assuming that you have a distributor, you may find that the engine fights the starter by firing so early that, at cranking speed, it is trying to start backwards. Loads of fun yet to come... Quote
