Speed Freak Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Hi all, I need new wiper blades, as mine are all rusty as the backs have decided to depart on the motorway a few days ago. just wondered where the best place is to get them? Have seen on the net that many people dont recommend the factory ones, so wondered where else to get them from? Are therre many different versions of the wipers, or do we all use the same type? I know of chrome and black ones but figured they are probably all the same fitment type? btw I need black ones. cheers tim Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Whats wrong with the factory ? mine have been fine , bought about 7 years ago Quote
Speed Freak Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 lots of people on the net have written that the rubber pulls away after very little use.... anyone else got another source? Or perhaps someone happens to have some lying around? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 My factory ones failed in weeks - the rubber pulled away. I used Halfords universal refills in the end. You need to modify the holders on the wiper arms ever so slightly, but it's easily done, the universals have lasted fine. And once the mod is done, they're an easy replacement in the future. Quote
Speed Freak Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 what does one do if there are no halfords stores in germany!? oh crap will have to look into equivelent stores over here.... Quote
Julian Turner - Westfield Sportscars Ltd Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 If they are in warranty then you should return them for another pair. We have the same wipers on all our cars and haven't had any returns or notification of problems Quote
Geoff101 Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 The ones on mine are made by a place called Tex Automotive in Witney. I think these are what the factory supply and you can buy direct but true to form, the rubber is falling off mine after less than a year and barely any use. I'm going the refill route this time. Quote
tolf Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I have found the refill type far better than the factory supplied ones. I had the same issue with the rubber splitting and falling off Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 They are made by TEX , perhaps they are old stock ? rubber perishes over time . you can replace the rubber inserts with those from other makes , I used some mk2 mondeo ones cut down to size . Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 I've never had any problems with the standard tex automotive ones from the factory. They've been on for 5 years now and are still working well Quote
Speed Freak Posted October 28, 2012 Author Posted October 28, 2012 I think if I was to go for the tex ones then I would simply buy them from the westfield factory, as they do need our support. plus Im sure the saving I would make buying them from tex direct really would only be minimal. The point was more, should the factory ones (tex ones) not be up to scratch then who else supplies theses types of blades. thank you all for your ideas. Quote
pistonbroke Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 Good Idea , support your local Westfield factory , I'm all for that Quote
IanD Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 My standard factory supplied ones have been on the car since I built it in 1995. Ok they don't get much use as its mainly a sprint car but there still ok when I do need them. Is that some kind of record? Do I win a prize?. Perhaps a new set of wipers. LOL Or perhaps it just means I'm tight. Ian Quote
