Simon225 Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 In 1994 my first westfield had the same reg as one at the factory... used by them for demo's.... DVLA or whatever they were called back then said 'impossible', Richard Smith gave me copies of documentation and dvla paid for numberplates, change of License/tax/insurance docs and for inconvenience, but insisted it couldn't happen! Had a friend who had a parking fine and challenged it, and the description came back as a different colour but same model of car...that was probably cloned not a real duplicate reg number, but have always wondered if my Westy reg number was a oneoff or does it happen more often? Norman Verona Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Point is, Simon, that it was a mistake. You have proved that you shouldn't be able to have two vehicles with the same registration number. Quote
davidgh Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Oddly enough, I did once see two (identical) cars parked next to each other with the same plate - they were Mercs. It was dark and the chaps stood around them looked a bit dodgy, so I didn't stop to quiz them on how and why they did it. I've also seen that once. In the "good old days" of 1st September 2003 I drove my car to Birmingham Audi and parked it next to another with exactly the same registration plate (the one I was picking up). Nowadays, the rules have changed -- the dealer has to have your old car for long enough to re-register it and transfer the unique plate to the new car Quote
