Tim Reid Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Having changed to an aeroscreen I have the hood from my factory built 1996 car which has done aproximatly 15k (mostly with the roof down). Good condition but the windscreen mounting trim is snapped in the middle... this was done on purpose as it fits in the boot easier and doesn't affect the function. = £140 including postage or collection from RG10 area.
Gordo Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Hello, Does this hood fit over an RAC rollbar? Thanks G
Tim Reid Posted October 29, 2012 Author Posted October 29, 2012 It fitted over mine but mine is taller than most. I didn't use the frame so the hood was tight from the roll bar to the windscreen. It would be best to try it on yours if your near Reading?
housebuilder Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Hi there I have the standard rollbar and would be interested but cannot come to you to try the fit as I am not quite finished with the build. I am not far away in RG20. Any chance I could borrow for an hour sale or return?
Tim Reid Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 No reply from Housebuilder so this is still for sale. Any sensible offers?
ALANBEAL Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Hi I am interested if it fits OK Same question did you say it fitted over the RAC Roll Bar but with out the hood frame did it not rub on the rear bolts Regards Alan Bookham
Tim Reid Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 Hi Alan, It fitted over my RAC bar which I think is a little taller than most. I didn't use the frame so the hood was tight from the roll bar to the windscreen. Which "rear bolts" are you referring to? I am not sure where your talking about? Thanks, Tim
Tim Reid Posted November 6, 2012 Author Posted November 6, 2012 Rear bolts of the RAC bar maybe? No it didn't rub no these because my rear stays are a little lover than most. I cannot see it to be an issue.
Tim Reid Posted November 7, 2012 Author Posted November 7, 2012 I have just been told by a friendly member that he has a 2005 wide body, RAC roll bar and things. He googled "hood repairs" and went to a guy that made soft tops for MX5's and things. Then got the hood adjusted to fit for about £80. So although it fitted my RAC bar, if your having any concerns then there are alternatives! Maybe this is helpful to anyone thinking about buying a hood.
User0083 Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Yes, the hood fitted, but I found that at motorway speeds it flapped about way too much. Simple search and a call, a morning and £80 later I have a perfect fit. No pram frame thing either. I added a press stud to front centre for extra security at high speeds. I drive 400-600 miles a week and at least 360 miles are on motorways! Cracking price and well worth getting it adjusted, if long drives in the rain are a possibility. I think they're about a grand all in at WF.
housebuilder Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Sorry only been logging in on Blackberry so mail is a bit odd. Happy to defer to Alan given my tardiness!!
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Just a point, but I notice your profile says FW special ed. Is it an FW tub, or a regular old style tub? (with FW nose/bonnet) The FW tub uses a different style of hood and frame from the ZK Westfield tub.
housebuilder Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 It's a new FW tub. Thanks for the advice. In Fairness TimDave was very good and offered to let me try it but that has probably saved a journey if Alan doesn't buy
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 This is the FW style hood, as you can see the back is totally different cause of the different shape tub rears. http://retweeter.co..../566/image/728/ The Sport Turbo mk 3 has a different , newer, improved hood design, I'm not sure if it will fit your FW tub though as the two are slightly different, be worth finding out though. Otherwise, there's always a half hood
