Annie Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Am I the first to be thinking about up-grades for 2013? This season has been fine on V700 Kuhmos but I thought it worthwhile to find out if the Ecsta V710 would be available and on the 1B list. I was told not in the UK, only in the US (where it is DOT road-legal). This is a bit like the situation with Yoko where the 050 has been available for years in Japan and Australia but the UK still only gets the 048. Why do we get left behind with older tyre designs? Grannie Annie. Quote
stephenh Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Pete found the Kumhos better than the Avon ZZRs; the later was too soft even for sprinting on a light car like ours. That was at Curborough. Presumably however the Avon is available in different rubber mixes? I should imagine Pete was on the softest. I had a close look at Gurston Down, the tread wear index was 20, which compares with the softest Kumho being 50. Quite a difference! Mind you, I MIGHT be on a list 1A tyre next year, we'll just have to wait and see. ;) Quote
davidgh Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Stephen Best make your 1A interest known quickly, Stephen -- after the support classes A and B have had this year (only three people have been out in A, nobody more than five events to date; NOBODY at all has competed in B), one has to wonder whether the days of 1As, even on road cars, are behind us. Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Put 1Bs on and go into D Best advice yet Stephen, keep your existing car with a windscreen and run in class D. Think I might even know where there is a nice gearbox for it :d Quote
SteveD Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 im loosing weight out of my chubby 680 kg elige and another few hundred kg's of myself Quote
stephenh Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Wot gearbox would that be, Nick? I'd be looking for a type 9 based 'box, heavy duty, close ratio, pref straight-cut, but of course some synchro. It would need to be a good'n, capable of taking a bit of abuse. I don't want someone's heavy wide ratio caste off. ;) :d Quote
woodman Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Annie Have a word with ACW before fitting ZZRs to your car, They may overheat with the extra weight of the V8, also they are not as wide as khumo Quote

Annie Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 Annie Have a word with ACW before fitting ZZRs to your car, They may overheat with the extra weight of the V8, also they are not as wide as khumo Stuart, ZZRs are not really an option since they are only available in 13" diameter (I've got 15" fronts and 16" rears) with the soft compound and the '50%' tread pattern. The normal ZZRs would be a real backward step from my Kumhos. The non-available (in the UK) Ecsta V710 looks really interesting ~ has anyone else checked them out? Grannie Annie. Quote

RobC Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 stephen seems my box is exactly what you need Quote
stephenh Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 stephen seems my box is exactly what you need Rob if you are serious, pm me with details of your 'box. Mind you, for a type 9 based box it will need to be a goodun for the amount of power it is going to have to cope with! Quote
