Dodgey Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 I just cant help myself! I now own a nice trailer just the right size for my Westie - bagged a bargain at 400 quid from a desperate seller. It even fits in my garage so i can load it up the night before a track day and park it inside. Decided to get it all sorted today so that meant buying... Extra drop down legs New winch Four nice new straps. Then, when servicing the brakes on the trailer (seems so easy after stripping my Westie diff!!), i again noticed that my 30 quid B&Q trolley jack was slowly creeping down, so took it for a refund and bought a Sealey 2500LE low entry trolley jack for 90 quid. Buy cheap, buy twice!! But at least i got.a refund :-) http://www.sealey.co.uk/PLPageBuilder.asp?id=20&method=mViewProduct&productid=13541 By God it is heavy!! Never dreamed i would pay 90 squid for a jack until now lol. Quote
SootySport Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Many trackday goers buy the aluminium low entry jack with a rubber pad, light to pick up and 1.25 tonne lift for about the same price, http://www.amazon.co.uk/CLARKE-SADDLE-ALUMINIUM-MOTORSPORT-TROLLEY/dp/B0036UWMRK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1348685345&sr=8-4 shame you didn't spot that one. And yes starting trackdays adds to the expense of Westy ownership, I'm also renting a 2nd. garage for the trailer and extra wheels, tools etc. Quote
Dodgey Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 I was aware of lighter ones but I thought why not have the extra capacity? My towing car is 2.4 tonnes.... :-) (I'm also not so keen on the max height of 376. I get 450 and I want all I can get - I've used other people's to raise trailer hitches up high before). Still, my beast is hilariously heavy :-) Quote
alexander72 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Dodgey, Must be some trailer if you cant pick up the nose wheel mate.. :-) will you be racing next year? James Quote
SootySport Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Don't forget, you need to balance the trailer with the Westy on it to get the right nose weight. Quote
Dodgey Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Lol no, it was a massive twin axle rental that i could not pick up the nose! It is what motivated me to buy a much smaller lighter one! :-) the one i bought is a featherweight! I plan on doing hill climbs next year. So far i have my FIA suit..... roger Quote
SootySport Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 Even more expenses coming up then! Quote
Dodgey Posted September 26, 2012 Author Posted September 26, 2012 Haha indeed, though I will be shooting at the most basic road legal class to keep it simple and cheap. I don't expect to win trophies but i really want to take part. Last hill climb i went to (spectating) I spent most of the time thinking " my go now!" Quote
alexander72 Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 see you out there Roger!! I'm doing 2 A next year as well. in my 1700 x-flow narrow :-) Quote
cast iron Posted September 27, 2012 Posted September 27, 2012 £400 for a trailer, are you sure you bought it from the legal owner Quote
