JOCKER Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hello, I am in the process of putting my Westfield back on the road after several years off it, and the header tank is covered on the inside with an orange residue. Question is what's the best way to clean the inside out. Many thanks Jocker Quote
Blatman Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Fairy power spray, water, and some sort of media like walnut shells or ball bearings or something... block up the holes, shake vigorously. Of shove it in the dishwasher... Or buy a nice ally one... Quote
JOCKER Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 Dishwasher sounds like an easy option. I'll try that Thanks jocker Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Crush a dishwasher tablet, fill with red hot water and add the powder, bung the holes and shake for as long as you can - works pretty well Quote
uk89camaro Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Did a load of chemical cleaners, baby bottle brushes, agitators etc. Dishwasher worked the best! Quote
Mark Redpath - WSCC Membership Secretary Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Put wonder wheels in with rice and shake like hell, worked a treat on mine... Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I just put some sand in, half filled with water and shook for 5 minutes. Quote
alexander72 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 markmk uses steradent................................ on his bottles, not pearly whites,,,, Quote
JOCKER Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 I tried wheel cleaner earlier and couldn't budge any of it, but I didn't add any balls/ rice which explains why it didn't come off. I'll pop it in the dishwasher when the other half has gone to bed! Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I don't think dishwasher will touch the inside. As others have said you need to mechanically and chemically clean the inside. Quote
uk89camaro Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I don't think dishwasher will touch the inside. As others have said you need to mechanically and chemically clean the inside. Surprisingly it does finish it off rather well, although I removed 50% via other methods. Quote
SootySport Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Dishwashers are better than those dedicated parts washers, I put a Jag V12 cylinder head and water pump in mine years ago, come up nice and clean . Swmbo wasn't very pleased. Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Kitchens do make a very good extension to the garage / workshop. I have boiled pistons in arial Ultra before now. That worked well but the saucepan was never quite the same afterwards. Quote
fatbaldbloke Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Persil, hot water, a handful of pea gravel, bung up the holes and shake like mad. Quote
TAFKARM Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Another vote for steradent (other denture cleaning tablets are available) here. Quote
