simon besant Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 It's the torque that pulls it apart 421 lbft when the engine came out Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 421 lbft, mercy f***** me I think I'd be cracking up, let alone the chassis, with that out front. Quote
StanS Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 For info - According to the man at Westfield, they did not make a chassis out of thicker gauge steel, they are all the same (but S8 having extra bracing ?). Also said cracking was mainly due to bottoming the suspension so loading transferred to top suspension mounts. Quote
simon besant Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Sorry stan just bought a new chassis and was told the steel was specially ordered in as was heavier gauge (Unless I was lied to by Westfield ) And it's not just the v8 chassis that cracks at the back Any way am pleased with new chassis Agree old chassis was made out of normal steel tube maybe that's the confusion ? And remember mine is a 1996 car so has done some work going from 170 hp to 380 it was putting the full cage on that finished it off just sheared the front off Quote
StanS Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Thanks for that info. I was just passing on what the guy in "Technical" said. as we all know, not everything we are told by the horses mouth is necessarily so. One of us has been told "misleading" info According to him there is only one thickness of steel used on the chassis From what you say, it sounds like yours was a special (one off) build to allow for the spec of your car. (??) Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I wouldn't go reading anything sinister into what was probably an honest mistake/misunderstanding. Over the years, the combinations and variations in exact spec of parts has been absolutely vast, even ignoring the one off's that used to be done. Quote
StanS Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 lol ! Didn't suspect anything sinister ! My guess is that maybe Simon's was a special order. Quote
simon besant Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 It's stronger than the old one :-) Westfield were very helpful I have no complaints And as said am very happy with having a good platform to rebuild the car from Quote
