Andy Rob Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Have just noticed that on full lock my brake hose at the nearside front just touches the side of the car. Although there is no fouling with the actually wheel or suspension parts, will this still cause an IVA fail? It's only on one side - on full lock the opposite brake hose touches nothing. I have tried loosening the brake hose at its joints to try and spin it round a bit without success. Quote
alex07715 Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Sounds like you're going to have to bend something. Can you not twist the brake line slightly? Funny I was just wondering how you where getting on, obviously not there yet! Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I put split convolouted tubing to my brake lines and cable tied them to the upper wishbone. This still allowed them full movement but not enough to rub on anything. I did it while up on stands so the suspension was full extension and the wheels were easy to turn lock to lock. Quote
Andy Rob Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 Still at it Mike, but end is surely in sight! It's the braided brake hoses, which seem impossible to manipulate in the way you want. That's a good idea Doug, I discovered the problem when I had it on stands, checking full lock to full lock. Will try that tonight. Cheers Andy Quote
s2rrr Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I managed to get a corkscrew shape twisted into my hoses and the very slight twist and the place they are fixed means they luckily miss everything. I would think that the IVA examiner would be quite keen to get that sorted so best done before you go. Just give him easy fixes that can be done instantly and he will hopefully give you that much wanted pass cert. Good luck Bob Quote
BobMet Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I got my flexi hoses under control by cable tying them to the wishbone in one or two places, but not directly. Separate the wishbone and the flexi with a length of small bore rubber hose, a few CM long, through which you thread the cable tie. Not easy to describe but I can post a piccie if you want. Quote

Andy Rob Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 Ahhhh. That's novel. Will give it a go, it's only the very last part of full steering lock to to the right, so hopefully it won't take too much footering! Thanks for all the replies... Quote
jonjh1964 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I copied Doug & Rhett and have my IVA booked for 10 Oct at Bristol. Have a look at Paul's they look good too http://iomwestfield.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/weekend-finished.html Jon H Quote
