KugaWestie Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Is there anyway of finding out for free via the internet when a house was constructed? Quote
alexander72 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I have used upmystreet or UK Land registry before - also try Ordance Survey or if you need a prfessional historic survey from postcode "renaissance regeneration of bury st edmunds... Angus Middleton (top chap) Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I'd have thought in your trade you could make an educated guess :d but it depends how accurate you want to be? normally a few visual clues help, construction method, specification of components, windows materials used etc etc for more modern stuff the LA planning pages on the council website can offer some clues if it's a recent build, and you may dig up the original planning app on their werbsite, or something written in a design and access statement either for that property or a similar one on the street. For older stuff I use old-maps.co.uk which will give you a fair idea when a building first appeared in a particualar location. A quick friendly chat with your local Building control officer is sometimes useful too, they tend to know a lot (sometimes too much ) about the properties in their area and have access to the council property database and various archieve. Be nice and catch them on a good day and we can be helpful Quote
KugaWestie Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 You are right Mark, in my trade I do have a fair idea, and am guessing this place that has caught my attention was built just after WW2 - 1945-1950ish Not seen it yet, going to have a look at it tomorrow, so will be looking at construction carefully then Just wondered if there was a quick down and dirty website that would confirm my educated guess Quote
Mark (smokey mow) Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Ah if only it were that easy I'm afraid it will probably need a bit of detective work Happy hunting Quote
stephenh Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 If it is post-second world war then there should be a record of planning permission at the local planning office. Of course, it may have been built several years after the date of the planning permission. Then if it was a speculative build by a house builder, the title should indicate when the builder sold it. Burlers Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 You can buy deeds for any property on land registry, pretty cheap from memory Quote
