Can You Date A Redtop From The Engine Number?

As per the title really.

Searched all over for an engine register, can't find anything.

Local stealer says it can't be done, they don't cross reference a VIN or reg to an engine number.

Any ideas?

That's what you pay your exorbitant fee to Vauxhall's Jonathon Bell for. But that's something Vauxhall themselves do, not a dealer level thing. I can't remember off the top of my head if car details were included or if it was just engine age though.

If you're just looking for a rough guide to age, there's a list over on Migweb somewhere that people have been filling in over the years; it's not absolutely comprehensive, but you can usually at least match to a range of engine numbers and get a rough idea of how old it is.

Are you sure you're not missing a digit by the way, I thought they were normally eight digits?

Assuming its the last digit missing, it looks like roughly 1992 BTW.
