Megabusa Oil Pressure?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i'm new owner of megabusa.. and i have one question about oil pressure.

my busa have westfield / pace products dry sump kit... and VDO gauge 0-10bar.

i have change old oil pressure sender because was broken.

with cold engine/oil i can read 4-5 bar pressure, with partial throttle and 4/5.000 rpm...

when engine/oil is warmed up, if i'm running partial throttle 4/5000rpm, the oil pressure i can read is lower, aboute 2-2,5bar.

it's all ok?

I'll check the numbers for you when I can next get to my car (end of next week unfortunately), but busas can have very low pressure, particularly at idle when warm - with some gauges dropping to near-zero.

You can see my gauges on a track day on this video:

can't remember the scale but this might give you an idea. I think my gauges go (left to right) oil temp (partially obscured), oil pressure, water temp, fuel then the large speedo one. I have the SBD dry sump, but believe the principal is the same.

Busa engines can show very low oil pressure (at low revs) - there's loads of stuff on the Interweb about people raising the idle speed to 1300 - 1400rpm to keep it up as some only see 8psi (barely half a bar)

I found this using Google here:- http://www.justanswer.com/motorcycle/15arq-oil-pressure-idle-1250-rpm.html

Oil pressure should be 30psi (just over 2bar) at 3000rpm and 50psi (3.5bar) at 6000rpm. At idle about 10psi (0.8bar) is good

That is such a fast car Greig!

I have fitted the uprated oil pump gear and still see low oil pressure at idle. It scares the s**t out of me but I know that it's all Ok in reality :)

you video is very useful, and your pressure is good!

the best is looking oil temperature also, but it's obscured.

the gauge is 0-10 bar and i can see you have 5,5/6 bar (80/85 PSI).

what kind of oil do you use?

what kind of dry sump kit?

on my busa i have 10W-40 full sint oil

with cold engine, oil temperature 20°C the pressure is very good:

<1000rpm (idle) 1,5 bar

1000rpm - 2,5 bar

2000rpm - 4,0 bar

3000rpm - 6,4 bar

when the engine warm, with oil temp 65/70°C the pressure drop some bars:

2.000 rpm - 1,5 bar

3.000 rpm - 2,0 bar

4.000 rpm - 2,5 bar

5.000 rpm - 3,0 bar

6.000 rpm - 3,5 bar

7.000 rpm - 4,0 bar

8.000 rpm - 5,0 bar

for take hight pressure with warm engine, i have to push and raise 8-9k rpm....

idle oil pressure with warm engine is very low, 0,4/0,6bar but i think it's normal on bike engine.. the oil pressure switch start blink the warning at 0,3bar.

i have spoke with an italian guy that racing with hayabusa engine, and in his opinion the "problem" are bearings.

it is normal on this engine because is very little compared with bearings of car engine, specially the bearings of connection rods..

if the bearing wear, will be out of tolerance, with cold oil you can't see low pressure because oil viscosity is thicker... but with hot oil viscosity more fluid and pressure drop.

what is your opinion?

thanks
