Norman Verona Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 The main problem with inexperienced paint sprayers is leaving moisture in the get gel coat, Looks fine until the first frost when it freezes and the paint lifts. You must have someone who understand how to deal with get coat and paint it. It's far more important than price. Quote
markc555 Posted November 15, 2012 Posted November 15, 2012 £1000 seems a reasonable price, provided it's done properly of course. There's no problem painting fibreglass if it's prepared properly and the correct primer is used. Paint gives a MUCH smoother, shinier and generally nicer finish than either gel coat or wrapping ever can. Lotus have been doing it forever and they're even getting pretty good at it now Leaving it as bare gel coat is probably the most durable but you're stuck with a limited range of colours, even if you buy a new body, and it never really shines like paint. I don't really get wrapping, unless you're using it for advertising or something wacky. It doesn't polish up anything like as well as paint and what's the difference between re-wrapping a panel and have a panel repainted. It's not even that cheap! Covering vulnerable or exposed parts like wheel arches or the leading edge of the nose cone is different (not really wrapping as such) though. Cheers Mark Quote
Greggs Posted November 17, 2012 Author Posted November 17, 2012 Thanks for your comments all, I am in york and there is a very good body shop in elvington, he was spraying a karman when i was there last and it looked amazing, So it does look as though he is experienced in fibre glass. I think 1k is fair considering the work involved. Some pics would be good thank Tolf, Thanks again all, will post some pic when its done.. Greggs.. Quote
greenandmean Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Seeing as you are in Yorkshire have a word with Matt Turner at Millenium bodyshop in Skipton. Matt is a westfield owner and a Speed Series competitor, and has sprayed his own car and Andy's(A4Gom). Quote
