Greggs Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Firstly i would like to say hello, as this is my first post... I apoligise if this has been asked before, i did search but couldnt find any info. Could any one tell me how much their resprays have cost? I have a 1980's SE which has never been painted Many thanks GreGGs.. Quote
robo1968 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Hello and welcome! Don't know anything about respraying gel coats though sorry.I know that if looked after they can last a long time. I bet someone will along here soon with plenty of expert advice. Quote
Greggs Posted September 8, 2012 Author Posted September 8, 2012 Thanks for the welcome Robo, i have been quoted 1k for a full respray, just wanted to see if this about right.. the gel coat is in good nick, its just that you can see what looks like brush stokes underneath it. Cheers.. Quote
GuitarmanUK Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I had parts of my GBS Zero painted (by my son in law, so got family rates) but based on the number of hours of prep etc required and the cost of materials, £1K for a full respray seems fair to me. Quote
User0083 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 If coat's in good nick, why not use auto glym paint restorer, then several good coats of auto glym wax? Something that's cheap and popular around Birmingham at the moment is vinyl wrapping! Cheaper, protects surface underneath and if it gets damaged, replace the section. My nose cone and arches are wrapped. My wife's going to wrap her car pink... Can be removed for resale. Quote
alexander72 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Rear end and sides on my 1990 SE was about £675 quid. Bonnet and nose from Red to Black - £225.... - ergo £1k sounds about right. Quote
tolf Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Just about to have mine resprayed, about £1100 all in Quote
Greggs Posted September 9, 2012 Author Posted September 9, 2012 Many thanks all, sounds as though the cost is spot on... It is red at the moment but it will be orange.. Did think about a wrap guest (not pink tho) but i think i will get it painted.. Thanks again for your help... GreGGs.. Quote
Speed Freak Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 are there any worries about seeing the original colour should you get stone chips/scratches etc... Id love another colour, but would be gutted to spend 1k to then see different colours showing through a few months/years later....?? Quote
Norman Verona Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Apart from price make sure the paint shop has real experience with fibre glass and get coats. Most don't and their paint will fall of in the first frost. Quote

Hope it all goes well for you. Quote
Pistol Pete Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 paint will never last as well as fibreglass (imho), think its better to live with it then rebody in a few years time (while you can if its a narrow). last time i totalled the cost for new body it was £2k. Quote
tolf Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 Greggs I can reccomend a paint sprayer in hertfordshire, dont know where you are, but he is very good and i can send you pics of my recent respray if that helps Quote
