adamski Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 You need to me careful when coming down the hill from the motorway into Glossop. There are several speed cameras now. There is one coming down the hill. When you turn right at the lights towards Glossop there is another on the right just past the garage which sells old cars. As you are going along into Glossop there is another one just past the caravan place under the large bridge. As you come through Glossop there is another one just past Tesco. Beware the speed cameras are the new ones which face you, if you are speeding when you first see it - it will have got you. Police also have speed traps on the main straight up to the snake. After you get past Glossop and head up towards the Snake, there is a Esso garage on the right just before the sports centre - that would be an ideal place to meet. Watch yourself on the snake as the road has "slipped/subsided" in places leaving dips/ramps in the road, which could bottom teh car out. There are no cameras on the Snake to my knowledge - unless plod is reading this and thinks I will get myself down there on Wednesday! After going over the snake as you are heading up the hill into Sheffield take the first left to the Strines Inn, then you could cut across to Penistone and back down the Woodhead. Adam Quote
Manchester Mike Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 I couldn’t help but write after reading this thread, the Snake-Pass and Woodhead-Pass are both very much my back garden. Paul is right about the traffic hence they are sending 90 million to solve the problem. I don’t wish to put the mockers on your run but be very careful of the rough road surface once you down the other side (ask Scott). You should also bear in mind that sheep roam freely across the road and would stop a Westfield pretty quick, not to mention ruin your day. However, I’ll try to be there. Re your meeting spot, it’s a main road double yellow on one side, for the benefit of Scott and any none locals I would suggest McDonalds at the end of the M67 easy to find, plenty of parking if you have to waite for latecomers. scooby Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 Right then lets get this sorted. Being a glossop lad for 31 years here goes. Come off the M67 keep it at 30mph and come into glossop. Past glossop caravans Past tesco Up and through the lights at the norflok pub. On the left is an esso (sells LRP) Pull in there 6.45pm leave at 7pm for an amble over the snake...... Home by 8.30pm (traffic not that bad kids are off) B there.......... Quote
Sideways-Darren Posted April 15, 2003 Author Posted April 15, 2003 right sorted. i think Macdonalds sounds the most straight forward.
