Conehead
I'm confused. having read this I've assumed the car started OK but then wouldn't. If I'm correct it's nothing to do with ring gears or pinions. Norman youre part right the car started fine couple weeks ago, then waited a couple weeks for the exhaust manifold to come then went to turn it over and it went very slowly then clunked to a stop. This turned out to be the starter jamming in the ring. Engine turns freely out of the car Ring gear is mashed and looks like it has had a lug welded back on it its life time
Conehead
Went out and brought a posh high torque inertia starter, oh and guess what it doesn't fit typical me eh! Exhaust manifold is in the way...........
FILFAN
Hi bud can't believe it's out again. It was deft a small hi torque starter in the engine though I can't tell you how many teeth it had as its currently in my friends mk2 escort rally car. Really don't see why you should sell the car as you will only loose money and who is to say the new one won't have problems. The best solution I usually find is if you do it right then you know it's right and will last. So once you finally sort all these niggles out there is no reason it won't be a good car. Conehead
Got a drive in it today, it was going really well and smooth although I have a noise like a nut rattling and I cant seem to find it. It will annoy me. I got to a roundabout just after filling up with tesco's premium fuel and the car just stop, I managed to roll it to the footway then push it up the kern of the road. 15minutes I stood there trying to start the car it would start then stop with serious fuel starvation. So I started swearing at tescos quite severly. Then sat in the car to sulk and looked down, the missus's leg had knocked the fuel pump switch off....... ARRGH.................... s2rrr
The learning process can be long and torturous lets hope you get some decent time with the car now before any more work is required again and that is when you want to, as opposed to having to. You've had a pretty cr*p experience so far, so a big thumbs up for your perseverance. As for the fuel switch well it was going to happen sometime wasn't it. Now you know and its filed away for the future. Good luck Bob Should have kept my big gob shut

uk89camaro
Fwiw I have a locking toggle switch for my fuel pump. You have to pull the switch out before you can flip it off,
Conehead
Just to top my feeling of a serious dislike for this car got it running and had a good drive today to find a big oil leak from behind the bellhousing. Guess it is the crank seal. GREAT

Norman Verona
You have a very curious way of describing your problems. What do you mean by "big ends gone too, don't know how. I ensure there is plenty of oil in it." I assume you mean the sump has been topped up. However this is only one of many reasons that a big end would run.
