kev91 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Best we always found was a bit of mars bar on a trap. Think we got about 10 in our shed using it. Quote
V8grunt Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 i Norm, We had the odd rat in Estry, it would run up the side of the house and then drop in to the gap between the wall and roof ( French thing, bedrooms with slopes on the side where roof is?) We to used the "Pink" marzipan sachets, the trick is to put them all over the place inside and outside! as fast as you get them inside, some will go back outside and breed up another 200 to attack your Gaf! I think the Yanks call it blanket bombing! It got rid of everything, apart from the frog that lived in my wood pile in the cellar! Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 GOT ONE!!!! Just found one very dead in the lounge. One down, many to go? Or is that it - for now. Quote
dombanks Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 how about seing if you can introduce some birds of prey that feed on mice? owls/hawks if you chose the gun route the university rifle club use to have an interesting "sporting rifle" that had a 100 round magazine. you couldnt accuratly hit a barn door with it but that didnt matter as ususally the number of rounds you fired made up for it! pistonbroke Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 You could try them with some of my wifes cooking, that should get 'em to leave Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 We've still got the owl living on the farm. You know the one, the one that was sitting on one of the beams in the bedroom watching us sleep! It was living upstairs when we moved in but the upstairs wasn't being used. I opened it up and cleared up 2 large bins of pellets and several of 160 years of dust. Bernie, she always says she can't cook but I wouldn't say she's that bad. After all I'm still eating her cooking 44 years on. Mind you she's never baked a cake or made biscuits. Quote
User0083 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 May have the solution... http://www.british-manchester-terrier-club.co.uk/ Smooth haired, bred to catch rats, looks like a pincher puppy and never gets bigger than a jack Russell! But looks like it'll get big. Quote
Norman Verona Posted September 3, 2012 Author Posted September 3, 2012 We'd have another cat or 3 if we could. HM is allergic to cats and dogs (and other animals, but less so). We had as many as 4 cats before she was ill. One lived outside all the time and just caught mice all day. She would always walk past the front of the house with her latest meal in her mouth. At least 6 times a day! Thanks for the info, interesting dog. Quote
