Doug Dastardly Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 I've noticed there's plenty of computer whizz's on here so thought I'd try you out for this one. It'll also keep Norm happy if there's a few replys I've noticed that live mail has become very slow recently on both my laptop and PC. Deleteing messages or switching between folders or messages takes forever, with a message 'not responding' temporarily appearing in the top left next to where it says 'windows live mail' I've emptied out all my folders including the deleted ones without an improvement. I've done a search on live mail not responding and there's obviously been a compatibility issue with an update. My symptoms are not the same though and a search does not find the update in question installed in my pooter. I can't remember when exactly I first noticed it or if there were any updates at the time Anyway any ideas would be great as it's beginning to get on my wick Thanks, Doug Quote
pete275 Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 You could try doing a repair on the installation details below: http://www.lancelhoff.com/windows-live-mail-has-stopped-working/ cheers Pete Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Thanks Pete. I had a read of that but my symptoms are not the same so didn't go further. Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Sometimes it offers to do that, and I generally accept. How would I initiate it? Quote
Stuart Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 On XP it's Start; All Programs; Accessories; System Tools; Disk Cleanup If it's a full of cr*p issue then download CCleaner. It's free and does a good job of managing the rubbish that build up on your PC including registry and startup items. Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 Okay, found it and done it thanks. No improvement. Should have said I'm on windows 7. Also tried a driver roll back as I read it could be a display driver issue. And there was no driver update available. No improvement. Then I realised my sent items was full, so I've started deleting them. It takes so long....click on it...wait....delete.....wait.....click on next one.....wait.....delete.....wait...... I have a love / hate relationship with computers. Love em when they work........... Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 28, 2012 Author Posted August 28, 2012 With regards to the rubbish build up........it would be a bit of a coincidence both laptop and pc suffering the same thing if it was this? Quote
echoz Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Doug, just logged onto my hotmail and am also experiencing slower than slow loading times, so may be on their end rather than yours! as for deleting old messages, if their is nothing important in your sent folder than you need to save, at the top along with mew, delete, mark as, move to etc is an option to sweep, click this, then delete from, then leave it going and go do something else, a quick way of deleting all your old messages in one go without having to tediously click through every single one fwiw, hotmail has a history of being crap! hope that helps a little bit Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Don't really use Hotmail that much, but is it not in the midst of being phased out in favour of an online Outlook equivalent? Quote
peterg Posted August 29, 2012 Posted August 29, 2012 Don't really use Hotmail that much, but is it not in the midst of being phased out in favour of an online Outlook equivalent? Yes it is, I've already converted to Outlook from my Hotmail account and it does seem to have been slower over the last few days than it was a week or so agio when I first went over to Outlook so I suspect it's part of the migration process now a lot more people are probably moving over... I have Windows 7 and IE8 at home and it works OK but at work we're still on IE7 and it only 'sort of' works with some useful things like your contact list being unavailable when starting a new emails!! I have to select an old email from the person and 'reply' to it but if there isn't one it has to wait until I get home anyway, apart from that it all seems OK Quote
