Better late then never, here are some pics of the engine bay etc;

And here is the finished product;

If someone could let me know exactly what I have it would help a lot. There is no prefix on the engine No. plaque.

Also, what year/model radiator are we talking about?

Is there a recommended alternate parts list about anywhere? That would save a lot of boring/stupid questions for you lot :yes:

Thanks again,

Max.

OK, its an early SE narrow, not a pre-lit. It has a 1600 or 1700 (bored out 1600) crossflow engine, on a downdraught carb, probably a weber 28/36 twin choke if you're lucky.

radiator is ford escort mkII gearbox is either cortina 4 speed or sierra if 5 speed (I'd guess 4 speed)

So plugs, points and condenser will be escort mkII, hoses should be sourced to suit the installation, demon tweeks list hoses, but you will find cheaper elsewhere.

Not a bad looking car considering it has been stood for a while. Looks classic with the swept wings.

As Paul says. One extra point to note is that the thermostat housing is off a MK1 XR2 and the cap on it should be just a blanking cap (and not a pressure cap) and the one on the expansion tank by the battery should be the pressuried one. Often people get this wrong and the car will overheat

Thank you very much you lot, really helpful :)

I've found the rad you've recommended (Mk2 escort 'polo type')...at £250!

One thing I'm worried about is what bends/angles I need hose wise? Is there a certain pack I can buy (demon tweeks lists several)? Or is there an easy way to bend them myself if I buy a few metres worth?

What water pump would recommend too? Mk2 escort again?

Thanks a lot,

Max.

Polo rad means a mk1 VW Polo 1.0 like this one, it will save you about 10kgs of weight compared to the standard Ford rad and was what Westfield sold to builders as an 'upgrade' ;)http://www.appliedradiators.co.uk/modules/shop/products.asp?records=AUTOMOTIVE&test=yes&g=1&area=a&test=yes&catid=39&test=yes&rangeid=359&transmission=M&aircon=no&year=1983&go.x=24&go.y=18

There isn't really a hose pack as every car is a bit different, get a new radiator in and then measure up using stiff wire and order what you need :t-up:

Mk2 water pump should be OK
