I need/want a 4x4 tow car (to tow trailer and westy to trackdays etc, 3 x dogs, no kids), the current saloon is getting nearer to a liability...(and the wife said I can change the car) so..

57/08 plate Freelander 2.2 or newer Hyundai Sante Fe 2.2 crtd and why?

Thanks in advance.

No don't get a gaylander

I love my 87 defender it's not the most refined vehicle and looks tatty but still gives me nearly 30 mpg

If you want something just for towing the westy how bout a ldv or transit recovery truck. 3k will get you something with life left and you can bet your life you will be inundated with offers of money for people wanting to borrow it.

You also do 70 on the motorway unlike if you are towing.

Kia Sorento is a fantastic car for the money.

My wife had one,my mate bought it off me, Better build quality than her current x5 and previous Lexus and Grand Cherokee.

Nissan Terrano, was a great 4 x 4 for towing also, mine was petrol though ,cant comment on the diesel.

I've been looking into the same thing recently with the new addition of two Labradors to our family.

I'm looking at the 3ltr diesel Audi's and BMW's as well.

Had a 4.7 V8 Grand Cherokee before which I really liked but got about 10mpg so traded it in. Not have any other 4x4s as a reference though.

Just a normal derv estate car will do you all ok, no need to go over the top with a 4x4, unless you are a farmer.

just picked up my new towcar today, I went for a 4wd after a few moments towing with my front wheel drive transit in the wet yesterday !! I bought an Audi A4 Avant 3.0 tdi Quattro drove it 160 miles home and averaged 53mpg which I thought was very good and better than I expected, I towed with it tonight and its very impressive has 240bhp in standard form and will remap to 300bhp if so required which at the mo I dont think it needs , 4wd feels very sure footed.

Bernie, That's true but how many Westfield owners would choose a car just because it ticks the boxes?

Who you calling a farmer?

I would come sort you out if I wasn't too busy ploughing
