thos Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 The historic Phoenix Park Motor Races were back on this year, hosting the Dublin Grand Prix for the visiting Historic FF2000 class. I bumped into Mark on Saturday afternoon, and he put it up to the big-boys in the Formula Libre on Sunday afternoon to take the race win in his Jedi. Looking at the timesheets the Formula Renaults were hard charging and had the pace towards the end. At a circuit where it's all power and balls, it's well deserved win!! A bit of a poor turnout for the sprint class which I was in, but I cant complain and was able to take the two quickest times of the day in my class. The format was more of a qualifying session but a bit of fun none the less. The circuit is mainly 3 straights with the odd chicane (and a roundabout), but a few on boards laps from me below: Quote

gixermark Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 oops - hadn't saw this post.. great smooth driving Tom... the view inside my cockpit was a bit more frantic trying to keep the wee baby between the trees ! was a great wk end, definately a nice box to tick Quote
thos Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 I can only imagine what it was like in your car. We watched the Libres coming up Ordance Survey Road (the kink through the trees) last time and it looked pretty mental. Kicking myself I didnt try the GT or Libre race myself for a bit more competition, but definitly next time. Great weekend alright, great weather, people and atmosphere! Quote
gixermark Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 yea - that road is mental.. i didn't get get to the limiter in 6th but it was well up there... Time sheets showed max speed of 141.xx mph from memory o was told by the girls in the office that was taken on the start/finish straight though ? and i was only in 5th there. the braking area before ordance survey road was mental.. th ecar was jumping one one side of the road to the other - or at least it felt like that ! you should definately do Libre next year - those times of yours were increadible for a westy !! thos Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 I'm still not sure on the max speed thing, from what I'm told it's average speed in kmh, because the only timing gear is the start/finish so it's just distance divided by time. My data logger was acting up, so I've nothing to check against. I was talking about the bumpy run into Furry Glen alright, and it was actually Simon McKinley (Irish Hillclimb Champ) sitting beside me just laughed at me "bumpy?!?" It does make it a little bit interesting alright, especially when I arriave to see the marhsall holding out an red/orange striped flag ... Quote
gixermark Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 yea, compared to a proper hill, it is fairly smooth.. although there ain't many hills you are flat in 6th with decent long circuit gearing on. coming out of that corner i got into 4th and had to pass a Vee... O must have hit a patch of oil/dirt being offline as the car stepped rightly sideways for a bit... was an interesting moment ! Quote
thos Posted August 20, 2012 Author Posted August 20, 2012 It's the drain and kerb on the inside that keep giving me nightmares! Quote
thos Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 You even had time to wave to the camera?? Quote
gixermark Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 ha - very good... guessing that was on the slow down after race 2........ i was over the moon to finish let alone win it.. the trophy was unreal Quote
