Everyone seems to be metered over here. Someone we know reckons it costs 400€ to fill there surface pool.

how do you guys get on with watering the garden/wahsing the car etc on a meter?

I am not a gardener so that takes care of that, and I wash the cars sporadically. My bill in 2006 was £350 p.a. off the rateable value and remember that was six years ago. Have a meter if there's only two of you. "You know it makes sense" as Harold Wilson was said to have said.

Healey threatened to make the rich people's "pips squeak", but I seem to hear in my nightmares Wilson saying "You know it makes sense" or at least the impersonator Mike Yarwood saying it on his behalf.

Meter every time. For my place I pay about a tenner a month for water, but it's only me...

At my house we had a 5 seater jacuzzi that held ~350 gallons of water. Cost about 2 quid to fill it.

Washing the car, watering the garden (120ft lawn...) is negligible. Certainly a lot less than a 2L bottle of coke or a couple of pints of milk...
