Tolerance, The British Way...

From a British perspective: This was a reader's 'letter to the editor ' published in daily " SUN" last Sunday. Read and think !!

Tolerance .. I am truly perplexed that so many of my friends are against another mosque being built in London on the Thames ? I think it should be the goal of every Englishman to be tolerant. Thus the Mosque should be allowed, in an effort to promote tolerance.

That is why I also propose that two nightclubs be opened next door to the mosque, thereby promoting tolerance from within the mosque. We could call one of the clubs, which would be gay, "The Turban Cowboy", and the other a topless bar called "You Mecca Me Hot."

Next door should be a butcher shop that specializes in pork, and adjacent to that an open-pit barbeque pork restaurant, called "Iraq o' Ribs."

Across the street there could be a lingerie store called "Victoria Keeps Nothing Secret ", with sexy mannequins in the window modeling the goods.

Next door to the lingerie shop there would be room for an adult sex toy shop, "Koranal Knowledge ", its name in flashing neon lights, and on the other side a liquor store called "Morehammered."

All of this would encourage the Muslims to demonstrate the tolerance they demand of us, so the mosque problem would be solved. If you agree with promoting tolerance, and you think this is a good plan, please publish my letter.

Sent to me by a friend.

 he's got a point...

can't see it happening though, the powers that be are way too afraid of offending somebody, in fact anybody...

There's a road in Leicester called New Bond Street where there's a Catholic shop selling rosaries, communion dresses and gifts, and statues of the virgin Mary, situated right next to a "gentlemen's club". I'd post up a Google Streetview of it, but don't know how to...

Ah Catholics, they can do anything they like as long as they confess to it the following Sunday.... unless they're priests in which case the church covers for them

...and in Bradford there's a synagogue opposite a madrasah.

Rory's Dad

Norm - when I worked in London there was a campaign which stickered up the underground etc with labels which read "Aren't you ashamed to read the Sun?" Tolerance is each to his/her own IMO.

Bradford there's a synagogue opposite a madrasah.

Shouldn't be a problem, it's the same word in Hebrew for a place of learning. Jews and Arabs are both Semites.

I think the author goes a bit far but probably makes a valid point. However, there is another aspect other than tolerance, it's called respect.

Very true, nothing like a thinly veiled racist joke to promote 'Britishness'.

I'm not sure it is racist. I would need to meet the athour and have a chat before I could say it was.

In my opinion too many issues are kept quiet due to being branded racist. For example I deplore the cost of translation we incur. My grandparent came to the UK without a word of English. No one helped them with translation, they had to learn an learn quickly. They did and fitted into an English way of life whilst still retaining, but not flaunting, their racial culture.

I welcome all peoples whatever colour, race or creed. However, if they want to live in the UK they should learn our language and ways If they respect us we will respect them.

Oh yes, the wife does a lot of this.

Don't disagree with you Norm, there is some cracking racially based comedy out there ... and then things like this, it's the kind of joke my parents would forward over the email, Jeez, not another one of their Roy Chubby Brown jokes straight out of the 80s laughing at a joke because of it's racial intolerance and the 'Yeah, let's p**s the ragheads off' mentality rather than being a well thought out joke with a punchline you weren't expecting. Read the first couple of sentences and you might as well not bother reading the rest.

But I suppose it does have to appeal to your average Sun reader.

I'm very careful to accuse someone racist because, for example, the talk of wogs and *****. I have friends who, when we first met said they didn't like Jews. I asked them how many Jews they knew. None was the answer. No, you know two, Lynne and I. There was silence followed by, you know whats coming, "Oh we didn't mean you". I politely told them they did but we didn't take offence as the remark was clearly born out of ignorance. I think Micks still trying to work that one out.

Real racism is when someone means real harm to another because of their race or religion. To call someone a name, is not, in my opinion, racist just ignorance.

I think the gist of Norm's letter is a comment about racial tolerance of which we dont see too much from the muslim headbashers side .

The picture I'm getting is they want to convert us and more importantly "our children" to there faith and there way of life .

Call it racist or whatever you like , but I think that if they want to be British , they should be showing some wilingness to conform to our way of doing things , not the other way around :t-up:

Aye, point taken, it's not racist, more intolerant or ignorant.

But what is 'British' Pistonbroke? We're a mongrel mix of Angles, Celts, Normans, Vikings, Germanic tribes, Romans and Barbarians ourselves, the Jews, Italians, Indians, easter Europeans and people from all over the world live here with us, we brought black people over on boats, we are the white people of Australia and America. Multiculturalism is in our blood.

From Bill Cosby:

"I'm 76 and I'm Tired"

I'm 76. Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my National

Service, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some some serious

health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly

40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my

income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as

though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who

don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take

the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy

to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I

can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and

daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight

offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't

"believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning

teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the

genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and

Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let

Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques

and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand ,

UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to

fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other

Arab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global

warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help

support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ

rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses

or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all

parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful

mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting

caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and

actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination

or big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and

early 20's be-deck them selves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making

themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I'm tired. But I'm also glad to be 76.. Because, mostly, I'm not

going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and her children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in.
