dombanks Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 hey all, i seem to be struggling to find a place to buy a fuel inerta switch. i need one that comes with the wiring plug and all i can find are used ones that dont or vastly expensive ones that do (like the webcon one thats £40). i dont remember haivng this much trouble before. i dont want to buy one thats been ripped out of another car with two crappy bits of wire hanging off... any ideas? tried looking on svc/ebay/cbs/etc the guy in the motor factors just looked at me odd. Rhett Turner - Black Country AO Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 The factory supplied one I had was rover branded, try searching for "Rover inertia switch" this should throw up some results, tried it in ebay and there are some that look very much like the one I have Quote
SteveD Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 rover 2 series etc ,mgf all the same as said from a scrappy with conector , its a nice little one with two mounting points Quote
dombanks Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 you dont think a second hand one would be dodgy? it was the switch that left me stranded the other weekend at vyrnwy... those look like the one i had before so maybe they will fit onto the old connector and i could get some new pins (or just a new connector) from polevolt. cheers. SteveD Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 you were just unlucky with that ,they dont really fail tbh vyrnwy is that in wales Quote
dombanks Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 you were just unlucky with that ,they dont really fail tbh vyrnwy is that in wales oh god yes... up the of nowhere when it first played up. but then it started and stopped a bit later. tbf its proabably not that far from your neck of the woods to go and well worth the trip esp if you head over the top to bala. this wasnt the unlucky bit, the breakdown truck that came to collect me broke down! i was sat there for bleeding hours waiting for the sodding thing. s2rrr Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Could you not have shorted out the two connections to get you away. Its only a switch but in a difficult place to get at. Easy after the event I may add. Bob Quote

dombanks Posted August 9, 2012 Author Posted August 9, 2012 couldnt tell it was that till i got it home and had a proper poke. ironically yes i could have got on http://www.ebay.co.u...=item25738c9558 Is this not any good? New and Genuine Land rover part + cheap yeah i saw that, there are quite a few. i need the plug too like i said get one like this and then the plug from polevolt. just wondered if there was somewhere that sold the two together appart from the webcon one on ebay that looks identical but is 40 quid. s2rrr, not a the side of the road... we all had a good poke but it could have been any part of the system and untill i got home i didnt find out it was the switch Quote
stephenh Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Why bother with one? Mine has been bypassed for ages, got fed up with it tripping. Quote
Hammy Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 The idea is to turn off the fuel After a shunt - in the early days of fuel injection the oil pressure switch ( TR6 ?) was used to keep the pump running and stop it if the engine stopped. This could be a possible alternative , I would like to have some form of auto cut off with high pressure fuel about . Modern efis look like they usually incorporate some form if switching for when the engine doesn't run - wont save you if you are umpside down in a ditch and the engine keeps going tho !! Quote
stephenh Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Better to have a correctly wired (ie FIA compliant) cut out switch I would have thought. Troy told me it isn't uncommon for the fuel cut-outs on Westfields to cut out on the dyno rollers, in the middle of a power run. Think it might be more likely on the higher powered and higher reving engines, just the just the viabration and surges when the power is applied or shut down sometimes trips them apparently. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 They're a constant source of trouble on Caterhams, Westfields etc of the higher performance, more aggressive nature. A modern efi system on a throttle bodied car will typically only run the fuel and spark if it see the engine turning over from the crank sensor signal. Quote
