Doug Dastardly Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 As above, I'm off to Aberdeen for a geo set up tomorrow. The forecast's good so I'm looking forward it The car feels okay, but then I've nothing to compare it to, or experience of what it can or could feel like. I'm lucky to have found this guy as I thought I'd have to travel to England for a set up. A very well known specialist, also club member, suggested this guy thereby doing himself out of some work. But I'm going to buy a quick release hub from him so it's all good. This was then confirmed by an Aberdeenshire club member who was happy with his set up. Now I need to find a Scottish Rolling Road to finish off the ECU mapping. Any recommendations? Happy Days, Doug (still spending on his four wheeled money pit) Quote
D7PNY Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Ricky Gauld near huntly! He's set my car up a couple of times now and is a top bloke. Can't recommend him enough! Cheers, Dave Quote
Jumpy07 Posted August 8, 2012 Posted August 8, 2012 Sitech in Rosyth now have a RR.. http://sitechracing.co.uk/ Matta rated them.. Heard some good reports of Wallace in Aberdeen.. they do Emerald, Omex, DTA and Mega,, Really depends on your ECU.. you need a RR operator that knows it well.. What ECU do you have ? Craig Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Funnily enough Graeme gave me Ricky's phone number! I had a quick chat to him and he's not that worried about me still running with a base map, after all it's managed 500 miles. He could fit me in in a couple of weeks if I want. I was just wondering if there was anyone else around...... Might go to Brodie Castle for a look when its on, is that your sort of thing Dave? Doug Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 8, 2012 Author Posted August 8, 2012 Thanks Craig, 2.o zetec with standard ford induction and omex 600. Quote
Ciprian Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 cant recommend Ricky high enough, he's had mine on the RR and what a difference that made. Reasonably priced too! Where are you going for your geo ? Quote
D7PNY Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I sent him to Graeme Wight Chip (just outside Peterculter) Doug: Been to Brodie Castle a few times in my days as I used to stay quite nearby, Fair trek for me now right enough. Although I'm hoping to be heading past that way for the Golspie sprint if the wife can get her shifts changed that weekend. Been on Wallace Performances rolling road (on a rolling road day) and the guys were decent. However, Ricky knows 'these sorts' of cars inside out! Before I go cams in and just had it in for a setup, it was night and day the difference. Car was so much more usable at lower revs which makes a big difference. Only thing I didn't like was that because it was fuelling properly afterwards I scare less old ladys with pops and bangs Cheers, Dave Quote
Ciprian Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 Cheers Dave, only asking as I will need to get mine done at some point. Should of done it before KH, I know, but couldnt push it in the plans. Quote
D7PNY Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I'm not sure if Ricky can do alignment as well? I'll maybe ask him when I pick up my car AGAIN. He certainly knows his stuff so would be surprised if he couldn't offer the service. Certainly more convenient for me geographically and hoping ot get new shocks at some point so would need setting up. Cheers, Dave Quote
John Williams (Panda) - Joint Manchester AO Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Morning, How was the Geo set up? Did it make a difference? Cheers john Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Morning, I can confirm that the geo set up was money well spent. And I had a smashing, dry and sometimes warm and sunny 300 mile day out. Graeme was a nice, friendly guy with loads of stories (he built a sprint car around an ex-arrows V10 F1 engine and gearbox!) Although I thought that the car was drivable, it was all a bit of a mess, although Graeme charitably said that it could have been right when it was done and has bedded in. Coming home it felt much better. It felt like the rear was following the front in a way it hadn't previously, It took less effort to steer and the front just seemed to 'swoop' round corners. Less tiring generally to drive and more planted feeling. It weighed 633kg fueled up. Only downside was it felt a bit hard for comfort on our bumpy roads so I might back the dampers off a click or two. I blame the roads for this not Graeme. Think I'd better phone Ricky now... Quote
John Williams (Panda) - Joint Manchester AO Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 sounds good..... let the upgrades begin! Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 Upgrades were started before I even had the car licenced Booked in with Ricky on wed 22nd Hope it'll still sound good on the overrun afterwards Quote
D7PNY Posted August 10, 2012 Posted August 10, 2012 Ricky won't dissapoint! I'm picking my car up tomorrow so will mention my referral to help soften the bill Hopefully that's the rear crankshaft seal sorted once and for all now School night not the best for me but feel free to give me a shout and if I'm free could meet up with a few others? I stay in Rothienorman which is only 25minutes away from Rickys place. Cheers, Dave Quote
Doug Dastardly Posted August 10, 2012 Author Posted August 10, 2012 That would be nice Dave, but I'm not sure it'll work out logistically. I'll be down there at 10:30 ish and It'll take 3 to 4 hours I think, so I'd be free middle of the afternoon onwards. But I'd want to be heading for home half six-ish so I can be home before it's too dark (I'm a woose, I know) If you can think of anything that'll fit that bill it would be great, if not I'll meet you sometime. Maybe Golspie, when's it on? Doug Quote
