Explorer stops working overnight about once a week. I have restarted it once but not sure what I did. The rest of the time I close down and restart.

So, anyone know how to restart explorer?

Thanks.

Kill the not working explorer.exe task in task manager

All icons and taskbar will disappear

Next press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task Manager

'File > New Task (run)' and type "Explorer.exe"

Try [ctrl][alt][del] then [esc]

Haven't experienced explorer crashing personally but often these "random" errors are caused by installing or uninstalling software.

I use CCleaner to keep the registry free of clutter an whilst it has it's detractors, I like it nd for me, it does what it says on the tin...

I also use ccleaner to clean up the registry.

I'll try your method first and if that doesn't start it then I'll try sestevao's.

Many thanks
